OFFERS: Apogee AD16

Postby Sammas » Thu Sep 30, 2010 11:11 am

Yup. It is one of them turtlerock threads. [-(

But! With good reason I suspect. I have an Apogee AD16 (not the x-series), 16 analogue in's to ADAT light pipe outputs.
44.1khz to 96khz operation with S/MUX. It is physically in excellent condition!

However, the fine print: Channel 7 isn't working correctly. I have no idea what the problem is electronically but it is constantly distorted. All
other channels work fine. From all the replies and information I have gotten, it isn't possible to have this repaired here in Australia as Apogee
don't share any kind of support documents. Sound Devices gave a (rather fast, probably with no correspondence with Apogee) quote of $400-$500
for the repair. On the other hand, Jay Wolf from Apogee support has issued me an RMA number for the repair with a quote of $75US Bench fee plus
$80 for return shipping from the states plus the cost of parts required for the repair.

So keep this in mind if you are chasing 16 channels. For those that aren't, this could well be the cheapest 15 channels of Apogee conversion on the planet! Hit me with an offer.

So for those who haven't done there research these are mostly the same as the ad16x without the bigben clock or the x-series cards (ie PT-hd etc). Supposedly they are the same converters and close if not identical analog stages etc etc blah blah blah. I have one of these and they sound great. The 16 channels of smux adat 96k (and of course 16 channels of 44.1/48k) is cool and the additional AES 16 outs make this quite a flexible unit. I use mine to pair between a lynx16 interfacing to pt offering all up 32 channels to pt and also as an additional 16ch (44.1/48k) interface to my portable fireface800 (or 8 ch/96k 'cause the fireface only has 8 96k adat inputs). Its rock solid either way and sounds great. Definitely an improvement over any similar priced a/d converter and more flexible than most in a professional environment. In fact if I didn't have one of my own already I buy this one and wouldnt care about the dead channel, simply work around it.

In regards to price... sammas please post the price you want. As has said before this is a site for people who say it like it is, if you want whatever the market decides head to ebay (good and bad success can be had there) if you want a sale here price, location etc will help you rather than hinder... Depending on the price and any extra terms (shipping etc) you'll probably have a private sale almost immediately or it will sit on the shelf for years. up to you.

i suspect you are probably right, Myles. I suspect ebay would be a better place
because this isn't entirely the usual Apogee AD16. I'd be stoked with $1000... but
like I said, offers. :-??

Located in Sydney. postage will be dirt cheap unless you want to pick it up. Maybe
$20.

$1000 is an excellent price and if it doesn't sell for that here (regardless of dodgy channel) ebay will see it well over 1200 au possibly 2K. Turtlerockers get on it, I would buy if I didn't have one already and if there was a da16 I would negotiate a trade or buy immediately.... This is not an advertisement merely a commendation, I wish I got my locally and for that cheap.
