Switching Apogee Rosetta 800 drivers on PC.

OK...

bit of a complex problem.

I bought an Apogee Rosetta 800 with X-HD recently.
I replaced the X HD card in it for an X Firewire card...
before i bought this card, i checked that Apogee FW cards worked on my comp...so i installed the Rosetta 200 drivers...on my computer to check...all was good.

Now, i went to un install the 200 drivers to replace with the 800 drivers and it seems to all be going to shit...

anyone here have any experience with apogee drivers?? deleting firemix properly seems to be impossible here as well...

Jamil - I had to say this....
Get a Mac and you will fix the problem - and many other driver/software/buggy/ problems that have not happened yet

Habit ? - Absolutely correct
The habit of business and client reliabilty (IE Income)- no downtime fixing these sort of problems.
Macs are more stable running audio software in a studio business situation.
Get used to it, or keep deluding yourself believing that all these great studios,their owners & managers / producers and engineers all around the world with diminishing budgets are idiots that don't carefully think about purchases they make and heavily factor in reliability.
Things may change in the near future - but as this post indicates - there is still away to go.

As for the mac-ibm debate. Well I'm a mac convert but there are plenty things my mac CAN'T do due to internal OS restrictions. It's really only good for what Chris said, professional audio use.

I'm building a octo core 24gb ddr3 hackintosh that will run snow leopard and save me 300% on the price of an apple octo. Gotta love those days of tinkering with ibm based pc's. It's taken me 8 months buying it piece by piece but i'm 60% done.

Windows should only load the drivers it needs for the hardware that's attached. I'd think that you shouldn't need to uninstall the Rosetta 200 drivers, just remove the hardware and windows will see that it's gone and not load them. This gets complicated when drivers insist on running programs. Does firemix work with the Rosetta 800?

Anyway, my money would be on removing the old hardware, running the Rosetta 800 install program and then installing the Rosetta 800.

If all else fails, do Apogee have a driver removal tool buried on their website somewhere? It may be worth emailing them or trawling their forums.

Also worth checking in the control panel/system/harware/device manager - sometimes you will see a bad device marked with a red error symbol. You can try to delete any bad entries, and then restart or rescan devices. Sometimes things get stuck in here and this can help clean them out.

If its a card playing up try moving to another slot, if its firewire try a different port, this can also help to trigger hardware rescans and kick things along.
