mobile version of Turtlerock

Hi, just wondering if there is an option in the forum software where you turn on a checkbox or something and a mobile version of this forum become available? I am finding myself using my iPhone more (kids keep commandeering the computer) and a mobile version would be good.

A search of phpBB mods reveals nothing. Presumably no one has thought of it, or thought they could do it.

Any programmers out there wanting to contribute to an open source project!?

I would love this too, but certainly don't have the skills!

I know some forums have mobile versions, so there must be a fairly simple way to get away with it.

I believe this software extension may help. It lists PHPBB as being compatible. Need to check with someone more knowledgeable. Then you just need to purchase the "pro" version for $3 to allow posting. Reading is free. Compatible with Iphones AND android phones.

i'm currently browsing the forum fine on a crappy java handset with opera installed. does it not render on safari for ios?

I read it on my iphone from time to time and whilst its a little slow have no other issues. Everything loads inc. photos etc so dont see a need for a mobile or wap version...

I also access these forums by mobile more often than not (but android phone using either the standard browser or opera) because my phone is usually on and near me, and even the loungeroom netbook takes at least 30 seconds to boot up!


The midibox forums are a really cool example of what can be done on the server side for a forum adjusting its display for mobile devices and full computers.

As for the gearslutz iApp, I think it's a special version of tapatalk... for some reason they didn't want to just use standard tapatalk (I don't have an iphone to try it, but suspect the GS app just keeps advertising in place!)

So yeah.. no idea what forum system the midibox forum runs on, but whatever they run it's a great example of what can be made to work.

but i will watch the issue with interest

i dont have a great interest in paying for a mobile app at the moment
but some guy in china emails three times a week trying to change my mind so who knows

you don't need an app, just an alternative version of the website that detects that you're browsing from a mobile... ie mobile.turtlerockmastering etc or just m.turtlerock.... that way it's cross platform between iphone, android etc, and is optimised for the small screen and ergonomic limitations of smart phones. look up m.theage.com.au as an example

i log on from my android phone but it's not really worth it as the layout is all wrong... so i think it would be a cool thing. these days i use my phone for web stuff almost as much as i use the computer.

It can be cumbersome scrolling horizontally, and zooming in and out.

Rick, I am not expecting you to pay for anything, I just thought if there was a checkbox somewhere (server side) that you could enable, that would be cool. I would not want to add additional maintenance to your jobs.

If it was easy to do, I would appreciated it.

Turtlerock would need to be formatted for html5 me thinks. For me, I never do turtlerock on the run. It's more a sit down and soak up the love on the big screen .......

There are some add on mods (http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=2092248) out there by the look of it but nothing that looks 100% fool proof. This looks like the best option without know all the details of this forums install. Webmasters call in the end.

There's an app called "tapatalk" that another forum I frequent is set up for.

The app cost $3.99, the plugin/extension thing for the bulletin board is free. It supports most of the major bulletin boards I think.

I couldn't see the point 'til I installed the app, it really does make fora easier to read on the iPhone's small screen.
