HOle saw for panel mount xlr's

Can anyone recommend a good place to get a hole saw for cutting holes for panel mount xlr's in rack cases such as the Altronics ones?

Try searching for a hole punch. The more expensive ones will last years, the others well...

Just measure your XLR and find the right size. Makes drilling XLR or larger holes a breeze.

hole punch is the go for a fast clean hole
If you really want to drill get a step drill

forget the hole saw

THanks guys, just been looking at hole punches, look cool. ALthough, the measurements on the neutrik panel mount xlrs says the barrel is 23.6 mm diameter, so do you use a 22.5mm punch and file it or use a 25mm punch?

+1 on the hole punch. Great piece of kit.
You can just get away with 25mm but the smaller punch with filing is probably the best and neatest way.

or go to a tool shop and get them to get you in a 24mm punch. This is the one you need for D style XLRs

yes as stated get a punch
i have every step drill known to man - i use them all the time
i still dont like them

if you have great drill press and you get a good one the hole saw is great and fast
but i have really good drill presses (note the plural there )
dont bother with the average chinese one - the hole saw will tear up your work

but as stated punches are better easier but cost $90-120
i keep seeing chinese kits of lots of sizes of punches on ebay which would probably do you

i figured because you asked you wanted a hole saw ?
i line up panels on the drill press with the hole saw and cut them dead on no marks nothing but if you go that way get p &N one

the punches are much better for clean holes if you dont have a great drill
but give me the shits over the coarse of lots of holes - so i drill
dont drill if you can get a punch

Hey, what happened to my post that said "Thanks Rob" about the 24mm punch? Anyway, there are some 24mm ones on ebay UK that will probably do the job.
Ben, I was cleaning up and came across my pair of V72's under my couch last week, and have been using them for bass, but wanted to rack them, so been talking to Joe about his go between and thought I'd give it a go.
I saw a mate at the St Kilda festival today(which is still going and the bass from the main stage is rockin my apartment) who conveniently owes me some cash and is a sparky, so I'm gonna do all the monkey work and get him to hook up the 240. My V72's already have tuchels all wired up and serviced a while back (thanks Ross), so it should be pretty straight forward. Mind you if anyone can screw it up I can I haven't had the soldering iron out since I ditched my console, so it should be fun to burn all my fingers again.
Wouldn't mind mounting my Shep pre in a case while I'm at it.

Ben, I was cleaning up and came across my pair of V72's under my couch last week

Geez Andy...V72's under the couch. Imagine what's under the sink or in the bottom of the undies draw....do you need a house cleaner?

I use a hole saw and a drill press.

I set the press very slow and I use lots of cutting oil. You can make holes as clean as a whistle if you're halfway careful. I make a LOT of XLR holes and this method works for me!

Hey Nick, yeah I saw the diy stuff on your site. Where's part 2 of the letraset thingy stuff tutorial?
I haven't got access to a drill press, only a garlic press, and even if I did I am pretty clumsy and would somehow turn it into an instant helicopter of death.
I'm gonna give the punch a go, only got 4 holes to make and all the time in the world, plus it will be harder to cut my fingers off, and I kinda need them.

So I ordered in a 24mm Q-max punch this week from the UK... can't believe I lived without this thing for so long!

Good idea , I got mine, and a 34mm one from the uk. Toolsomething on ebay. They are 40% the price that they cost here for exactly the same thing, same brand and all.
They are great, so easy they make you want to punch holes in things all over your place.
