For Sale: AWA Dual Input Modules Type 1G66143

Postby 13thbeach » Thu Feb 24, 2011 6:40 pm

Hi Guys,
Selling x3 very rare dual input modules made by AWA. Had these for a while now but I'm never going to rack them so its time to move them on.
They are in great condition and look "new' like inside. I'm sure these will sound great when racked. They are not the same as the ones in Chris V's console.
They have the same huge transformers but have a simpler eq section. So just to be clear, these modules have x2 channels in each.
$850

ALL SOLD

Cheers,

Matt - Ive got 2 of these and they are insane preamps - I can really recommend them, I have done 2 albums with these as kik, snr, tom pre's and they are killer - for my ears : better than a Neve 1073. The EQ is cool sometimes - sometimes not, Ive had good results with acoustic guitar too: the hi freq on the Eq was very nice.

Ahh! thanks Chris.....That doesn't help with me deciding to let them go...haha. Its taken me a long time to come to this decision. I was going to rack up 4 modules but I already have a bunch of good stuff and I really need to pay off some debts. So I'll keep one module along with an output module and I also have one of the other modules (like Linear console) so I'm happy with that.

Now hurry up people before I change my mind!!!! these will not last long!!!!

The Hi Low switch I think is for the mic pre's -eg ribbons - but I never had my one wired up for both , Rob has recapped my ones so maybe he can shed some light on these. There is some weird unbalanced output thing happening - sometimes (at Mangrove Studios for eg) they don't work with the wiring.
Everywhere else - no problem.
But hey - they are great sounding pre's!
To be expected of AWA.

No idea of the EQ settings - sweepable - I use my ears (and don't look) . I got great results with EQ on toms fat low end, and hi freq boost on acoustics

The Hi-Lo switch is basically a pad for the mic input.

And yes, the output of these is unbalanced which is why you're better off with a line amp card with a transformer to make it work properly.

I'd hazard a guess that the hi shelf eq is 10k, no idea about the low end but probably around 250?

On the linear console it's 10kHz top, 31.5/63/125/250 low, 1/1.4/2/2.8/4/5.6k presence and HPF 0/45/70/160/350.

to work standalone these need an output amp / balanced driver added. The existing naked output isn't really suitable for talking to the outside world.
However adding this output amp is a doodle and as those in the know have experienced, these are sweet rocking preamps.
