firewire 400

running a mix cube system on a G4 mac 9.2 tools 5.1.3 ,this has been rock solid ever since it came out , my problem is trying to obtain firewire 400 drives that use the oxford 911 bridge set,i fried the last one of 4 that i had. any clues as to what other new firewire drives will work with this system

Is it the physical drive or the case components that have fried? Most external drives use regular hdd components, so yours should contain either ata or sata drives, both of which you could replace with new or used hard drives. if the case components have failed there is a reasonable chance it's the power supply, which again you may be able to replace, or rewire to use an external power supply. What sort of drives are they?

the hard drives are ok ,the firewire drives are icecubes, the firewire interface is fried on all except 1 , tried the working power supply with the suspect icecube cases,no go, so much for firewire being hot swappable! i have brought other firewire drives they will record but play back white noise only,so i assume its because the drives have to have OXFORD 911 CHIPSETS ,according To avid

Although not fully tested and supported with Pro Tools systems by Digidesign, you may be able to use firewire drives from other manufacturers with similar results, given the same guidelines noted above. To date only FireWire drives with the following specifications have performed well with Pro Tools systems:

Oxford 911 FireWire bridge chipset
7200 RPM drive
getting hold of an older case seems to b a possibility i guess i will try evilbay

we sell these. both with 911/912 and both work well with pro tools...i use a fw 800/400 lead on the smaller unit to my macbook...

Good suggestions from Michael. I've had success swapping new drives onto old cases and vice versa to get operational again. And making repairs to power supplies when they've gone down but everything else is ok (doesn't seem to be the situation you're facing at present, though). The problem(s) will likely be PS, case or drive, one of the three, and each is fairly easy to replace.

I doubt there is much new hardware on the market these days that will work with OS9. Secondhand is probably your best/only option.

got it sorted , went to the local mac dealerthey lent me an IOMEGA MINI STACK this worked as did GW800 Sarotech Hardbox , it seems anything with an OXFORD CHIP SET will work, thanks for all replies
