Want a Broken, Wacky Mexican Strat?

Postby DwaneHollands » Fri May 27, 2011 4:52 pm

Haha. With a subject line like that, I should be in sales. lol.

I've got this Mexican strat that I used live for years. Bought it late 90's I think. Can't remember.

Anyway I've got my 1988, 57 re-issue strat that I use now so this old girl has been neglected. Two main issues with it. I broke the top of the nut off it while vigorously stretching in a new set of strings, "oh dang!"

And there's some electrical issue where it's making a lot of noise. I think some wires come loose or something. But they are Kinman Hx pickups that cost me $650, so it makes it a pretty decent sounding guitar.

The way I would explain the difference with the Kinman pickups is, "I started using all the positions instead of just sticking with 2". And they're really expressive - and noiseless when working!

Here comes the whack! Funny story - it's got zildjian stickers all over it. haha. I just loved Zildjian A Custom cymbals and I was given some stickers. So I just put them on my guitar. It doesn't make any sense. The red circle one just looks cool and I love the, "Kick, Snare, Zildjian" sticker on the back. It's wacky I know!

Anyway, I just can't be bothered getting it fixed up and I just want to give it away to a good home. It comes with a hard case in OK condition. I'd tape it up real good before sending. Not sure how much freight would cost, never sent a guitar before.

Anyway, if you're a struggling musician or studio and you can afford to spend some money on shipping and some time on fixing her up. She's all yours!

First one to post, "oh, I'll take it" gets it!

I want it!

But... if you fancy, I shall find a good home for it and pay the shipping cost?

Surely there is some needy, enthusiastic kid out there that would love nothing more than a nice guitar like this? I'm trying so hard to resist the urge to take it because I already have a lovely strat.

Just a thought. You are a nice man, Dwane! :)

Well, I said the first person to respond and you are that person!

Nathan Turnbull come on down!

It's up to you what you'd like to do with it. I mean shipping is no peanuts I'm guessing since It's not like I'm around the corner in Sydney or Melbourne somewhere.

I wasn't sure anyone would be interested. Again those kinmans are pretty good, after I got them I used that guitar for years. Nice defined neck tone, smooth caramelly position 2 and 4. Barky mid pickup and an agressive bridge without the ice pick in the ear thing happening.

I'm not a guitar tech (i should be but i couldnt be bothered) but again I'm pretty sure it's just a loose wire, maybe earth or something.

Anyways congrats Nath, I'll put it in the case and cloth tape it shut to secure it on Monday and let you know when its ready!

BTW, thanks to everyone who expressed interest!

Sorry to those who missed out. If I have anything else to give away I'll do this again!

BTW Nath I used to live on Negri street! great little suburb there! loved that place!

Rick does your brother live on McCourt rd cause it's actually not that long. That address I gave is actually our printing factory.

It'd be cool to meet him, "Hey my name is Dwane, I've actually never met your brother before. But I'm on his forum!"

haha.

Well that's nice of you to do that Nath!

OK, It's all packed and ready to go. When you have a consignment note, send me that through and I can tape it to the outside of the case - or just let me know what I need to mark on it for the freight company.

If memory serves me correctly I ran 10-52's on it. There's a few in-complete packs of strings in there. One pack is missing the low E I think. I think the other one has it, so you should be able to make a complete set from what I had there.

Anyway, this is how I've packed it, let me know if you need anything else done to it!
