Fulltone Tube Tape Echo

Hey all,

I recently sold my Space Echo and although it sounded incredible, I'm looking for something a little cleaner and less 'warbly'.

I've recorded through a Fulltone TTE and loved it. Problem is I can't seem to find anywhere in Aus that stocks them. Global Vintage is listed as the official Australian dealer of Fulltone stuff, but the TTE isn't listed on their website.

Anyone manage to get a hold of one of these locally? If so, where from??

Ive got a fulltone
Its nice - but not as good as my Roland 501 - or 555 (in good condition).
These particular Rolands have something special going on that the fulltone can't touch - plus the chorus is great for that Bowie vocal sound on Scary Monsters

Hey Chris,

Yeah I had the RE-201 which I loved but (and I know this is blasphemous) I'm having an anti-vintage phase and I want something that's going to give me a nice tape sound without the headaches - even if it means I have to compromise on a little mojo... I had to get the Space Echo serviced twice in 12 months and it wasn't cheap. I've used the Fulltone and I still think it oozes vibe.

PS - I think Sam Pearton introduced us a little while back at bjb. How's the studio in Tas going? You still got those Electrodyne modules??

The 501 is a totally different beast than the 201 (especially for mixing)
But like all these old beasts when they start to go wrong they seem to get into a habit.
Funny thing - at one stage I was going to build a 2inch valve tape echo using Ampex MM1200 parts that ran between the 2 panels of glass in the control room at BJB - so you could see the tape circling inside the window......... bit of a gear porn fantasy really.
Yeah I'm totally in love with my Electrodynes - they are the best bit of gear I've ever owned.
If I had to sell everything and keep 1 thing - it would be my 10 Ch Electrodyne - I'd choose it over our 40CH Quadeight - and the 60 Ch Neve V1 at BJB - or any console for that matter.
Added to a Proharmonic passive mix bus it blows every console Ive ever used out of the water - including Jim Moginie's Vintage Neve full of 1073's.

is that using a pair as make up gain? or running the modules into 10 discrete inputs of the summing mixer and using something else for m/u gain?

Nathan I have 2 custom valve compressor/mic pre's built for me that I use for make-up gain

Angus - you need to know the right models to get the best ones.
And that's all I'm going to say about the particular rare models I have.
The 500 series EQ and Mic Pre remakes are amazing though.

Haha, I would hope it would be working perfectly for you now. I put a lot of love into it. Although, as far as I know there isn't a single RE-201 out there that doesn't need a little TLC...

If you're going down that path, you might want to check out a Line6 Echo Pro 1RU. They're discontinued, but come up s/h fairly often. They do a surprisingly credible rendering of several of the older units without the price tag or the propensity for mechanical failures.
