If it's anywhere near the Wagner I'll be a happy chappy. But yeh, I'll set them up side by side through the pair of BA 1073's and see what happens. :-)

Fantastic, two great mics in a year! After such a long anticipated wait, I'm looking forward to hear your impressions of it, particularly with the Wagner available as your reference.

Hey Ben,

Yeh, I fired it up last weekend. Really only to see if it worked. Very time poor at the moment. I plugged it through a 1073 and hummed a few bars. It sounded great, although without reference sources and and a mix to place it through I can't really define with any clarity. I hope to spend a few more hours with it this weekend. I'll finally do the A/B with the Wagner and I'll layer, EQ and try various sources.

First impressions are good. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

Over the weekend, I managed to find enough time to set up the Wagner and CS-4. I set them head to head and ran them through a pair of BA1073. Nothing else.

The first thing that stood out was how close the levels were. With the same pre settings the levels were matched. I was expecting the CS-4 to be louder. Trying to keep my mouth the same distance from each capsule I sang a few bars. I then strummed a few bars of a guitar. I generally don't use a U47 for guitar but it's a comparison.

Listening back, I am stunned at how close they sounded. In fact, I could almost use these two mics as a matched pair. I'm blown away. Really critical listening I'd say the CS-4 has a touch more "air" but not enough differences to worry about.

I'm very happy. :-)

i better lock him away before somebody pulls him out of their hat to argue with your post

Hah, you may be right. My disclaimer is that my listening environment is not as good as yours. If I find some time over the next few days to figure out how to do it, I'll post up a bit of the vocal and you can check it out for yourself. I'll do it in 96k/24bit so just add to daw. Clearly marked. I hate those guessing games. :-)

Either way, this is a very nice mic and very useable. Those who are waiting will be pleased.

Cheers

i am with you not agin you peter
if you put them up and couldnt immediate decern big differences and barely any little ones , that would be because there probably are not big differences and really puts the ones that you need to labour over to discern into perspective

at the end of the day we are talking about microphones..... not a set of political ideals that people would die for
somewhere along the line i think the modern media hub makes those kind of extremes way too close
a smidgen becomes a mountain and a serial number becomes a battleground ..!

well that is unless you use microphones to record music
then they become conduits - some are wide and smoother and easier to use
but thats about it ...in the washup as long as they work ...they are conduits

and if you collect them and use them - they are collectable usable conduits !

actually why dont we start an internet rumour !
