that is interesting Adam
because my mother said the same thing
there must be a different kind of oil heater
because this one has
absolutely NO fumes — no smell .. none — and
as best i can tell its totally sealed
it heats up the oil inside which heats up the metal on the outside
which heats up the bones on the inside of me
it makes no noise other then the click of the thermostat when it turns on which is why i bought it
Over the 300 other heaters in the store !
nothing to do with price
i just asked em what they had that didnt make noise and wouldn't cause a fire if i was careless
our house is centrally heated and cooled with an airconditioner
its just under my house where i have my computers , tech bench and stuff that is freezing
as for portable that would be the wrong word
small movable and on wheels would be better
if it was black and had levers on it you would swear it was a emt 250 digital reverb (r2d2)
but they cost about $15,000 when they were new !
definitely NOT part of the china syndrome

Aren't the Chinese importing these for $15.95 each at JB Hi-Fi these days?

You don't have to save the world.... just your little part of it. If that is just you, your wife and kids then great. That's all it needs to be.
As for "stuff".... yeah, it's not really worth it in the end. My guitars won't gently weep at my grave when I kick it.
Take it from me, love your wife. Love your kids. They won't remember your "stuff". They will remember you though.

I just want to know what happened to radiators (not the band) - I just wanted a little 2 bar radiator and all they have are these things with glowing ceramic tubes and a whirring fan!!!
I don't want light and sound - I want heat!!!!!

There's a really interesting discussion about China (including industry and economics) right now on Radio National. It'll be posted as a Real Audio stream by tomorrow.
