My fav all time mic happens to be a fet u47, and it seemed to be getting to a point where they are getting to expensive an unobtainable.
tax time got a decent return, fet u 47 comes up on ebay, I win it, life is SWEET, I am so stoked
I am thinking of getting a box for it, any suggestions on where one might come up?
previous owner said Gunther just serviced it, another epic winning!
he also said that Gunther turned the capsule 180 degrees as there were a few issues with it and because the back had been unused shouldnt be a problem, can anyone confirm or deny this?
secondly thought to myself I need a pre with eq, and I have been looking at lunchboxes, and then thought to myself I really like the chandler ltd1 why dont I see if there is one on ebay, sure enough there is, and I win it and now I have 2 chandler ltd1's
sometimes people just get lucky, I am so exited I thought I would share!
any similar stories for other people?

Re: I have had some good luck lately!
there is a box on ebay this week i forget which country
if you cannot see it try german ebay
nothing wrong with spinning the capsule
on a cardiod only 47 it only used 1 side
so in theory the back side is unused ! so it should be great

Re: I have had some good luck lately!
in regard to the thread
its the german .."other size" ..
its metric easy to get but i dunno what the actual thread is called .. i have never known ?
when i say easy to get there are adapters thingys for all stands designed for the usa ( most stands in the world )
i guarantee you that every size you see listed on line or in a shop that is a really easy to find adapter
the adapter you want is not that one it is " the other size" one ...
its a pain in the arse having to mix and match all the time so i make all my stands and mic holders match to the neumann threads
everything ...
as for holy crap batman ...
a lot of people are very surprised by what a 47 does for a vocal when they actually hear it instead of reading about it
- doesnt matter if its tube one or not
it comes out sounding larger then life and right up in your face and of coarse just like a record
thats what we all want innit ?

The DVC is very under-rated, as is the Manley ELOP.
Rick's been banging on about them both for years. Maybe he knows what he's talking about???

+1 on that... before i'd used a U47 (tube) i just thought "yeah i'm sure it's great but who's spending $10k+ on a mic..." then you you hear it (with a neve pre) and you start thinking about what you can sell and how much do you really need a new car?

Re: I have had some good luck lately!
I bought it in late 2004, I think you had mentioned for at least 12-18 months before I started looking into getting one,
the old forum didnt have a sign in, and posts didnt move to the top with a new post.
I think you said something along the lines of " for the money the best pre on the market is a Langevin Dual vocal combo, but neves are still better but cost alot more." there would have been something witty in there as well
that was good enough for me, if it didnt work for me I thought someone on here would pick it up.
it worked for me!
the other thing you said on the old forum that changed my life was I had an old marshall jmp come up for sale, really cheap, you posted your thoughts, I was sold, and since then many marshall nuts have said it is one of the best marshalls they have ever heard
so if it hasnt been said before, Thanks Rick up for the forum and giving advice for free and hopefully can return the favour with some business
