I'm not sure, but I think I can recall that the early A16 (not ultra, not plus) is NOT 24 bit, so $500 is probably too much. Having said that I can also recall good things were said about them.

Given subsequent responses, it sounds like the one I bought from you Myles!
Similar price, which I was happy with at the time. I later picked up the 24-bit version and I use both now.
One issue with these, but also, I note, with the Auroras with ADAT cards, is that when you're running in S/MUX mode (88.2 or 96 kHz), you can only use the first 8 channels. Given the reduction in processing power, this may not be a big deal, but it's something one should be aware of I think.
