CD Authoring Question...

Firstly Rick, let me please apologise for asking this question on your Mastering Forum... but it serves as a good example of why you should go to Rick @ Turtlerock, who you can speak too, and not to one of the 'LA' guys...

I've just been handed a 44.1 'Mastered' AIFF file for an entire album that I need to create a CD master of in Waveburner, to be sent to replication immediately.

I just basically need to create the track chapters, which I am fine to do. but my question is if I use the CD-Text facility in Waveburner, will this disk still be permissible for replication?

Please note, that the disks are being replicated, not duplicated.

I have to give a master to the label, and they will give the master to the plant, so I don't have any contact with the plant directly, but I think it may be a Sony Manufacturing job.

Will CD-Text invalidate the master, and also, has anyone had any other issues with Waveburner creating out of spec CD's that I should be aware of?

Once again, apologies to Rick, I had no say where the record was mastered at all.

hi mate.
this isn't a definitive answer - and i don't know the FACTS, (sure rick will chime in) but my EXPERIENCE, and that of some people around me, is that text CAN make a master not work for some plants... it seems to be one of those things that is hard to do right, and has a few different standards. so i would be wary of it, at least until you have some better/ factual info.

I think I will hedge my bets and give them both versions, a version with CD-Text, and a version without.

I would be great to have it, but not at the expense of missing the deadline.

Cd text can be be a disaster and other times no issue
as a rule i dont put cd text on anything unless it is requested and i do a waver

what people really want is itunes /gracenote names but it gets mixed up with cd text as a concept

does wave burner have a history of cd text muck ups ..?

CD Text is generally a waste of time as it basically only ever shows up on some SOME car CD players... NOT computers.

So +1 to what rick said... only if the client insists and you explain that they shouldn't bother.

Having said that... I've never had a problem on the few occasions I've had to do it (using Sequoia).

A recent job I got back from mastering- looked cool on the computer/CD player etc, but when chucked in a mates car up came the CD text- "Track 1 mix 3 bass down 2dB" etc...

Not sure how that got through, but I would have been a damn lot happier with no CD text.

The song was definitely called something else! This was the third remaster- sometimes you gotta know when to cut your losses.
