Hi Gents
I'm looking to add a pair of different EQ's for flavor to my set-up.
If anyone has any interesting old Calrec /Audix/ Neve's lying about - racked/unracked /unloved/collecting dust...
sussing some options - can trade too - lots of goodies at this end....
Let me know....
Also - anyone have a Bax that they want to part with????

Myles - you have a endless supply of stuff in your back shed!
I need to weigh up possibly getting some LAZ's or 1084 clones as they are pretty good value if I cant find some nice old Calrec /Audix/ even unpopular Neve's
- I only really want some different EQ flavours - no need for more mic pre's.

I've got a pair of Kajaani eq's. stepped 3 band with hi/lo filters. Fully discrete from norway and pretty rare, racked. Pair of ADM inductor based eq's with stepped switches, racked. Pair of DIY neumann 492 copy, fully swept freq and gain, 4 band, racked. 2 pairs of 3 band swept eqs designed by Deane Jensen of jensen transformers fame, unracked. DIY Nite EQ pair, 5 band with stepped hi frequency 'air' band prepared by Barney Loveland. A pair of DIY API 553 eqs un built, 3 band 2 freq's per band, discrete/inductor based for the 500 series rack or could be built into a 1ru case. A pair of McCurdy 3 band with swept mid/presence, racked. Pair of Ward Beck 462b 3 band, fully swept, fully parametric (with q control) and shelves, unracked. There might be more too...

Well if Myles doesn't have something there for you, I can recommend the LAZPRO 1084 clones, I have 4. A bit pricey after you add in the caps/transformer kit from Colin at Audio Maintenance.
If I was going to build some more the sound skulptor kits are an attractive price, no in/out transformer.

Myles - I might be interested in the DIY Nite EQ's
Really looking for hi frequency EQ's - 15k upward (more like 20k and up "air") - and some nice tight low end EQ stuff.
Having many Electrodynes and Quadeight's - I have mid range covered and will never need to look again for mid EQ.
Maybe if you think some of this stuff would cover the very high and very low fat tight non wooly frequencies -
Whats the Kajaani eq do well?
And Barney - the sound sculptor stuff looks promising

The kajaani does 2 sweeps, mid band 80.125.200.300.500.800 and treble 1.25k.2k.3k.5k.8k.12.5.k and hi/lo filters so probably not suitable if you want high frequency. The Nite EQ has a sub boost/cut band then a boost/cut for 4 bands 40hz, 160hz, 650hz, 2.5k and the Air band which is switchable for 2.5k,5k,10k,20k,40k. Its famous for the air and the sub sections and I use the 20k and 40k points for sweet (not brittle) detail. 1ru case with hand engraved front panel, bypass on each channel and external transformer.

Is the NTI... original was blue? Never heard of a DIY one of these. Where did you find that?
Incidentally, wasn't the original a mic pre too? (Or they made one with the EQ.)

I've just hammered the last nail into a freshly racked pair of Neve 51 EQs. They are soak testing over night in the workshop.
Fully refurbished, re-capped in a 1 U case. Two channels of four band EQ, all bands sweepable, top and bottom bands either peak or shelve.
+ / - 10 db level trim added, all transformer in and out. Unweighted noise - 87 dbu, max output + 29 dBu, 3dB down at 90kHz. Heaps of internal headroom. Tomorrow I'll dig up the guff that Neve wrote about the shapes of the curves they used. I'll also see what they owe me.
and keep in mind folks that I have a fresh racking of a pair of Quad Eight AM-10 base preamps still for sale.

Re: WTB - EQ's - Calrec /Audix/Neve.....
original was NTI and the DIY one was made available through groupDIY by PeterC. Have a look around on the forum and you'll find details. Original one was 2ru, 2 channel. The air band was also incorporated into a 4 channel mic pre (I have one of those) and may be some other stuff too. Originally the eq was designed for a console which never got off the ground. The company was out of business for some years but is now back again here...http://maagaudio.com/
