Anyone going to the ARIAs?

Postby Drumstruck » Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:18 am

Just wondering if any of you fine fellows are going to the ARIAs? Or even better - anyone up for an award?

Just popped over to the site and its pretty sad that when you click on the Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year awards it doesn't actually name the engineer or producer, it just shows the album. I want to know who the nominees are first and their album second...

Engineers, producers etc are apparently not good enough for the ARIA awards.

The winners of the "Artisan" awards were announced back in early October, the same days the overal nominations were released.

FYI: The winning engineer was François Tétaz – (Gotye - "Somebody That I Used to Know") and the producer was Wally De Backer (same).

they stopped given engineers and producers awards on the night many years ago when the tv broadcasts
thought it was boring

i am a judge for these things
i am not going this year , although i have been to all of them except the one that was in melbourne
i can not qualify the $500 ticket price right now

rumour has it that they are not televising it next year
it might get good again worth going along to , we will see

our band coerce has been nominated for best hard rock album...
Mike (singer/guitarist in coerce) engineered and mixed it here at capitalsound.

he's going to the awards, thru a donation from mum.
i had no idea they'd charge $500 to go to it! wow, what an eye opener!
you'd usually hit up your label fro the ticket money i guess, but we're DIY all the way. and $0.00 in the bank.

anyway, it was nice to be recognized.

Karl - congrats.

A mate of mine is the General Manager for Warner Chapell (Warner's publishing division) and he goes every year. I'll have to find out if they pay for their tickets as well.

everybody pays ,maybe if you in a bigger org your boss pays but in general everybody pays

its a lot of money , there are cheaper seats but if your real industry its $500 or close enough
at least you can buy the tickets singlarly nowadays

i use to have to front for $2500 or so upfront for a table if i wanted to go and then sell the seats off

no value for money going on there , as soon as they totally stop broadcasting it
and make it an actual acheivement recognition night again the better for me

I was fortunate enough to engineer the Clare Bowditch record - 'Are You Ready Yet?' - that she got nominated for. Also produced the track on there by 'Golden Arrow'. Check it out dudes and see what you reckon. My major label debut. Hah!
