What a cool cat.
Would be interested to know what mic the sax player has attached to his sax. Very noticeable in Green Onions.
Enjoy.

That's "Mr. Casual"....Charlie DeChant; he has been playing with Hall and Oates since the late 70's, and is responsible for some of the greatest sax lines ever recorded in Rock/Soul music.
He's playing down at a winery on the South Coast of NSW early next year with H and O, you should go and check it out and ask him...they are very approachable.

That excellent Richard.
It's in Bowral which only 40 minutes from me. I see Icehouse are supporting and my good mate Steve plays bass for them so I might go in the back door and mingle.
Mr Casual pulls and awesome sound but me thinks it's probably 99% him and 1% that cool little mic.

Yep, it's him, not the mic. I saw you were in Kangaroo Valley( been through there a few times; it's beautiful) and figured you might be able to get to Bowral. I'm going, but a bit disappointed they are not at the Hunter vineyards.
When Booker T recorded Green Onions it was through a Hammond M and amp, not a C3 and Leslie. just goes to show it really is in the fingers and not the instrument...and deceptively simple 'till you start to learn how to play it like the record.

Yeah that's strange their not playing both Hunter and Centennial vineyards. I'll check in with Steve and maybe catch you there.headman wrote:Yep, it's him, not the mic. Nice bit of info about the Green Onions recording. The amp in the original recording definitely sounded like it had a bit more cut/bite than the leslie he uses in the Daryl's house version.
cheers

Re: Booker T on Daryl's house
Pretty sure the mic on the sax is an older AMT system. I think they were called the Roam 1 or something similar, they are superseded now. Could also be a DPA but I don't think so, the capsule looks different.
Great sounding band, but I can't help but feel like the drummer rocked up to the wrong gig!

I love drummers facial expressions and it was good to see he dressed for the occasion.
Nothing compares to the laughs I get when I watch this drummer though.
