I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with one of these.
Do they work, are they worth what factory sound want to charge for them, How much of the room do they block? Are there any other products like this?
Any info would be greatly apreciated

hey Simon, we recently brought one and have since sold a couple to other engineers and also to Leo Sayer on our reccomendation. In the studio they are great - gives a nice clean vocal sound, they are also great for tracking in the control room as it cuts out excess bleed from the monitors etc. Overall I think they make a worthy addition especially without spending big bucks on room acoustics and also great if you have a great room but occasionally track vocals in the control room etc.
we have them listed on our ebay store for RRP but if anyone from here wants a price on one please don't hesitate to ask. we are a dealer for sE now and have ourselves purchased a Reflexion Filter, Pop Filter and sE Gemini Dual Valve mic and can highly reccomend the products to anyone.
if you need any further info or want to drop in and try one out in our studio just let us know.
cheers

We tried one out early on but didn't keep it. I think it would be good for going to a singers house and recording them, but for the studio it was so bulky and cumbersome it didn't get to stay. Most singers and VO peolpe we tried it with didn't really like working into it, most said it felt a little claustrophobic. But as i say, if I had to go track an album of vocals in a crappy sounding room I'd take one with me. And a trailer for the mic stand you need to keep the thing stable.

thats wot i was wondering . . .
i picked up the auralex iso pack from factory sound (set of foam pads for vocal mic, drum mics and also mic stand iso pads). a lot cheaper than the SE unit, but i got the pack before the SE thing came on the market. . .
i've found it handy - seperate guitar mic from vox mic when tracking a singer/acoustic guitarist, achieving better seperation on drum mics, reducing the amount of room.
(if that's what is required to get the desired sound . . .)
that said, i'll probably pick up an SE iso unit as well, simply because the control room is the tracking room is the lounge-room!!!!
some clients may feel claustrophobic, some clients may interpret that feeling as "cozy" - who can say?
