I'm really, really sorry for you Rick. I know that whatever anyone says on here can't do much to ease the pain, but I'm definitely thinking of you, as I'm sure many others are.

I feel for you Rick.... one of our 'family', our 12-year old shitzu/pomeranian cross, passed away in my wife's arms early this morning after a horrible 24-hours. A combination of paralysis tick, old age and failing organs. We loved that dog. Go chase them bunnies, girl....

I love dogs.....and it breaks my heart to read about people losing them. I know nothing, some bloke you don't know on the internet, could type would make you feel any better...but at least know, that someone is sharing your loss.

Dogs give so much and ask so little.

That's quite a list. Sorry to hear about your loses.
I hope 2012 brings you everything you want and deserve.

2011 was for me a very busy and exciting year, some highlights were
recording The Cure, Spiritualized, Tim Finn, Paul Kelly, Radio Soul Wax Too Many DJs,
and finally finishing the Mahler box set for the Sydney Symphony.
2012 is going to be lots of Opera recording and mixing for cinema and DVD, plus a studio relocation.

Looking forward to a holiday though.

Had a good year here but things are looking pretty crook for next year at the moment - no big projects to look forward to as there were last Christmas, pretty much sweet f a in fact...

So business as normal...

As for those of you who's year has been shit, I thought seriously of writing a poem or something to cheer you all up for a couple of minutes, but the more I thought, the more I realised it had been done...

All years are a mixture of good and bad (especially where Jack Russel's are part of the equation).

on the good side I saw Levon Helm play in his studio in Woodstock...a night I'll remember forever; and travelled round the world for the first time. I have it on good authority that Keith Emerson will be playing in Australia next year (but I've heard that before!) so next year will be a big tick for me as well

Seeing Neil Young in NY this year was pretty spesh for me. Also caught Norah Jones in a 70 seat venue which was nice.

Had a second son, and not much sleep. Acquired some fantastic gear, mostly through this forum (huge thanks!), spent far too much.. but had a ball this year at the desk listening and learning as much as I could. Other than my own stuff, recorded a few tracks for a friend's band over the course of the year who was all smiles, so was really pleased with the end results comparing to the catalogue from the year before.

Topped it off with the delivery of a U47w yesterday so I'm really looking forward to the next few months of running it through its paces. Expecting to make 'FS' post soon to help ease the account woes though...

Really sorry to hear about the puppies.. I had the same thing a few years back, toughest thing I've ever done and certainly didn't feel very hohoho that year. Still have her barking on one of my songs though, perfectly in time.. immortalised forever.

Really enjoyed reading this forum this year, thanks to everyone who contributed and make this place such a friendly, useful and entertaining place to visit.

Levon's studio, by the way, is totally pinned together with pegs into untreated wood, and his old Gretsch kit is the best sounding drum kit I have ever heard (miced or unmiced). On the night the Corky Laing band played as well...using another of Levon's Gretsch kits. Unbelievable band with a new album recorded and mixed. He's getting old and his voice is fading but who cares?

I have pondered what it is that gives us an affinity with our domesticated animals. Some people anthropomorphise them; I think it's our inherent animality.

Jeez Rick, When your storm clouds form they really bring on a storm. Just remember that as stormy as it is today the sun will eventually shine again. It always does....!!!

I'll give my year in review when i have a bit more time to focus. It's been tough but rewarding.

He's getting old and his voice is fading but who cares?

That's how I felt when I saw Les Paul at the Iridium on Broadway in '07. His guitar playing, not his voice, was fading a little, though there was still a spark of his earlier genius. However, just being there was enough for me. Since he died shortly after, I was doubly pleased that I had got to see him, and, thanks to a great guy who I met at the door (another story, for another day), I got to sit and have a beer and a chat with him after the show. It was a happy little Aussie who strolled down Broadway in the early hours of the morning.

I began the year by burying my dad and closing up what was left of his life. Followed by getting my first all-clear from my cancer docs and recovery from the months of chemo and radiation. Let's hope THAT trend continues. One of my remaining brothers was diagnosed a few months ago but I'm hopeful and pray for him.

We've bought a new home in Springwood and are moving. (even as I type this on my iPhone from a motel room), back from WA. I get a really nice space to build out. And out of the blue, my ex wrote and said that my youngest son from that marriage can live with me, after years of not letting him visit.

Gear-wise, I have moved to an HD native step and am excited. Lots of new toys and have fallen in love with building Joe Malones dual 99v's. I've recorded some good music on both sides of the mic this year and learned a lot.

At this end of the year I look back and count my many blessings and I've decided this,

I am still alive. I have hope. I won.

when my deluge stops and things are better i am going to work through it with the overseas owner of this hoade and
stick what i dont want up in the for sale section
meanwhile it all sits in my shed teasing me like the rest of my piles of heavy audio junk

Explains your ponderings very well...but in short, dogs are decendants of grey wolves, or as explained in the doc, "domesticated wolves", which started as wolves knew they would find carcasses of eaten animals, when travelling with human groups... this closeness then evolved as man evolved, into what we know now as domestication....

seriously fascinating stuff. doco is amazing.
