My year wasn't a great year, I did a Uni course I didn't enjoy and worked full time so it didn't leave much room for getting any extra recording time in. I also fractured my leg in June from running (got bad shin splints!) so I've only really started getting on the mend, physically and bank balance wise as physio is expensive. It turns out Cycling is a good way to keep the cardio up and let my legs mend, but I'm not going to run till at least Feb next year.

Managed to get a bit of a plan together for the next 12 months that included getting rid of lots of bad gear I had and buying a couple of good things (1178 and an API 2500). Next year I plan to be really trying to put myself out there!
Also been trying to organise myself a wedding for January, so while the planning is a lot of work right now it'll be all done and dusted in a months time!

Hope everyone else has a great 2012, it seems we're all looking forward to shedding the weight of 2011.

Try swimming too Owen. When I busted my leg several years ago it was a fantastic way of a) getting fit again and b) strengthening the muscles on the broken leg without putting weight through the bone as it mends. Good luck as you mend and for your coming nuptials too!

This might sounds strange but...

I walked into a studio for the first time this year. And I’ve been on and off this forum since 2003, so go figure...

I’m an ITB electronic producer, so studios don’t really figure much in my scheme of things as I write and track everything at home. But I needed to record some female vocals, so I got to see and use a Neumann, which is something I’d been looking forward to for a long time. Small steps...

My other band recorded live on ABC radio, I got some tracks properly mastered for the first time, bought far too many soft synths / plugins / NI Maschine (and actually sat down for hours and learnt how to use them)

And a fortnight ago my third child was born, a little boy. Now I’ve got ‘two under two’ , crazy times.

I just hang around here because you guys ‘think big’. I’ll never own the cool old and heavy stuff, I can’t justify it, but the knowledge that goes with it is quite transferrable into what I do.

...to add to my year I just got two of these for my Audek console. Will be nice on the master buss I had been looking for a 500 type comp but non would really match the console aesthetically. Then these came up for sale and I pounced on them they have the looks to match the console as well as the sound and function.

There are some unbelievably terrible people in the world.

My next door neighbour, is a blind paraplegic.

We keep an eye on her as she lives alone.

She owns a border collie cross, as do we, and we also, are very attached to her dog.

She finally went on a five week holiday, put the dog in a boarding kennel.

Got home a week ago.

I hadn't seen her or her dog, since they got home, but my wife and daughter had.

There was a knock on the door an hour ago, it was a family friend of hers, letting us know, that her dog, Shammy, had been poisoned. Some arsehole had put ratsack in some food and baited the dog.

Bugger me. The lady is blind, and a paraplegic, and lives on her own. The dog was her only company.

I can only begin to imagine how awful she feels.

The dog was about 6 years old, and we knew it from a puppy. She was a fat waddle thing, that always greeted me at our common fence, no matter what time I got home from the gig.

All of our family is shocked and saddened by this horrendous act of cruelty.

What a horrible thing to do.

man that is screwed, I would look into lost dogs home, or RSPCA an get her another dog for company, maybe somethig older,

if there are any issues getting a dog for her, let me know an I will call some friends in the area an see what I can arrange

Make sure she reports it to the Police and the RSPCA, both take it as a very serious criminal offence, as they should.

I am also in the "untreatable" category.

After 2 years of non-stop chemotherapy and radiation I have finally run out of medical options to treat my cancer. I have been given 3 to 6 months to live, maybe more, maybe less. I am officially in palliative care now.

I've sold off everything with just my guitars to go. I'm keeping my RED Epic camera and Edit suite as they are booked solid until the end of 2012. So even if I'm not here my wife and boys will have a very good passive income stream.

What have I learned? That today might be your last. So don't do the cliché thing and "live to it's fullest man" but keep short accounts with people because you never know if that argument you had may be your last and you simply don't have time to go back and correct it.

What have I learned? Money means nothing. The love of family and close friends means everything.

You get the idea.

My passing will be on the news, so when you hear of it, please, feel free to come and hang at my funeral and say hi. I'll be the dude in the black box with the white rose on top.

We've never met, I think we'd had a few disagreements in the past about things that really don't matter.

In fact, following your story has made me realise that in the big picture, all this 'stuff' means nothing. It's just all a means to an end. People matter, money and things don't.

Hey Kristian, Just like the wah pedal you sold me this year I've had lots of ups and downs but whenever I use it, it reminds me of what an inspiration you are. I wish you all the positivity and joy in the world.

I had a few disagreements with you too Kris (even though we hav'nt met either), I'm probably a shit stirrer too sometimes but hey at least when you believed in something you would'nt bend. Also your a straight up guy, what you see is what you get, no BS. Life should not be measured by years but by success, you have a great wife and kids and you've done a lot for other cancer sufferers also and successful in your career, if years compared to this you'd be 120 years old. Much respect to you.

My year has not been so bad, no big highs (er well maybe a few.....), no big lows either, but hey I like it like that. I'm not going to be recording but will probably start writing a bit of music for fun again, trying to live a bit without audio. I'm going overseas next year, Europe and maybe the USA, 4th of July would be fully sick.

Sorry about the dog Rick, lost our old boy about a month back and his litter sister won't be hanging around much longer either, had a great innings for Danes though. Always sucks badly when it's time. If you want a French Bulldog gimmee a ring, our super stud Supreme Aussie Grand Champion (my avatar) has a litter somewhere in Aus roughly once or twice a month, lucky fella has been busy. Not the brightest but they are great companions.

So as far as years go for me it's been better than average, can't complain.

I've not said anything because I didn't know what to say. A dear friend and a family member were lost in the past week and they remind me of what's important.

Kris, it was the tenor of your posts, the way they reassuringly suggested normality, which led me to assume that it was a change in your work that prompted the selling of your gear over the last few months. I get the impression I'm not the only one to have harboured this hope.
