Hi,
just a heads up. there are a pair of AWA discrete mic pre's for sale on ebay. at the moment they're $50/each.
they'd be the closest thing to a neve 1290 you'll come across, and if they work they'd sound great (I have 24 of them)

Thanks for the heads up, Chris - I snared one of them. What are your tips and suggestions for the best use for them - I'm thinking of using them as the front end for a nice vox channel strip, but would like your input.

Hi,
Yes, sorry to those who already had their eye on them. I'd thought about that, but in reality I think it was still pretty cheap - considering they come with a power supply too.
I just hope they sound good! I PM'd chrisp about them, basically the preamp section should be the same as the pre on the modules I have (the transformers are the same at least).
Worst case scenario, I have a whole stack of unpopulated preamp boards that came as spares, so you could always build a better pre (everything else required is already there).
I also have the schematics for the pre/eq, it's on the website.
Cheers

Hey, no probs chris. I wasn't dark on you. I just had a limit to what i was willing to pay, besides i have stumbled accross my fair share of assorted Aust vintage pres.....G.A.S. takes a hold of me sometimes.
My guess is they are an older design than the ones in your desk but would still have a great sound with that iron in them. You guys that purchased them will have to tell us what they are like.
