Sorry, this is completely off-topic, but I need to rant.
Took the wife to our anniversary dinner Thursday night and CC gets declined. No drama, but I'm puzzled. So off to the bank on Friday, turns out there's been $5500 of charges in the previous four days, plus $2000 more since Jan 3.
Much much investigation later, turns out some woman has been running around town with a card in her name but my number. So I got skimmed somehow, though I can't imagine where as I never use the thing.
Anyway, the woman got arrested on Wednesday after crashing a rented car, and the police were curious as to why her licence was a fake. They then discovered she was in possession of over 20 fake credit cards.
Ok so this is really inconvenient, but not a disaster. The woman's been arrested and the bank has the case number, so it's a clear cut case of fraud and I'm in the clear.
What blows my mind are the types of transactions she ran up. Every transaction hit a small business (except for one to Qantas). But worse, more than half were to buy items from charity auctions. Seriously, who rips off a charity?

Re: Credit card rant
makes you hope the is some form of karma doesn't it?
I guess though, when you are questionable morally to begin with, she probably doesn't even recognise it as an issue.
Gee, I even give change back when a shop attendant gives me too much.

Meh, it's annoying but not catastrophic. It was kind of embarrassing to have my card declined in front of the wife however - anyone who has ever been married will know what happened next.

Re: Credit card rant
I have a neighbour who doesn't actually live next door, but owns & is renovating the house next door. We see & chat to him often. We hadn't seen him since before Christmas & his grass was getting quite long (and it's a HUGE yard). Last Saturday my wife said I should call him to see if everything was ok. His wife happened to show up that afternoon & informed me that he had, tragically, passed away just before Christmas from blood poisoning caused by an injury sustained whilst working on the house. He died two days after injuring himself.
Anyway, she has since paid twice to have the lawns mowed. They guy even told her it took a long time to mow. Thing is, the lawns were never touched. Now we have a few people helping out, mowing the lawn & finishing off some minor renovations for free, so the good people outnumber the bad. But the question remains, who rips off a grieving widow? Perhaps he's related to the woman who ripped off the charities.

I was going to say the same thing.
I did jury service once, and the running theme had to be thieves are not the sharpest knives in the draw.
It was entertaining enough to watch the barristers run rings around them with simple wordplay.
Second theme, thieves have no morals - no surprise there I guess.

Re: Credit card rant
The reason I only use a credit card for online purchases and only have a smallish limit, cash is still king. A mate had his skimmed too, was from a taxi we worked out, but how do you remember which one at 5AM? Anyway glad she got busted, time to rub some salt in.
I saw the other week a lady in a big expensive 4WD buy 2 of those expensive weird soy latte's and then rob the clothing bin next to where she parked. Weird hey?

Well, if she took stuff that was near the bin it's technically rubbish.. Not sure if that's better or worse though.
