gearsl... is broken

Postby rob » Thu Mar 01, 2012 4:54 pm

I was so bored sitting here manning the race comms at the Adelaide V8s that I thought I'd browse gearslutz to kill some time. To my surprise it seems to have been hacked into a porn site. A strange irony...

Hahaha! Re the new 'hacked" GS site, what the hell type of sex device is a "3-Wheeled Adult Bike"? I hate to think...... (EDIT - ahh, the hacked site just refreshes with a bunch of different search terms, for a moment there I was never going to look at my Malvern Star the same way again....)

Laugh you may, but this isn't funny.
There will be 'producas' all over the US panicking, unable to finish their mixes without someone to ask how, mic pre sales will dive because nobody can compare them all by listening to shitty online samples, no one can get opinions on gear from people who haven't actually ever used it and we won't know how much better than hardware the plugins modelled on the hardware are. etc.. I foresee dark times ahead.
So... which pre WILL give me the Neev sound for under $200?

Gearsl#ts was always a porn site, its just that it was hacked by guitar players for a while, now normal service has resumed.

hmm... I dunno I've always found it very helpful in regards to finding about the pro stuff that can be very hard to try yourself. Sure you have to take it with a grain of salt and some members are nuts but most forums are the same or worse.

Got to say though, the whole "Slutz" aspect of it is a little sickening though - Absurd over-commercialism FTW! **==

Kinda funny they made it a porn site though haha

Always only went to the remote recording section, and almost always found it immensely helpful regarding info on non-standard mic setups, for example.
Most of the time, you didn't need to worry about too much blah on gear, because the core guys had the most expensive stuff (Schoeps, DPA, etc), and presumed that everyone else was aiming for the same level, so they just talked shop.
Hugely informative, and only got really ratty when someone bought up subjects like A-B blind tests - then the egos came out.

Great shame.

How does one do that?

Anyway, It's back up but their URL rewriting isn't working.

I don't think it's been hacked, it looks like they haven't paid their hosting account so their site and domain name is up for grabs.

Nah, they got hacked. Apparently when they configured all of their nameservers there was a typo in one of the entries. Some spammer then registered that typo domain, then enforced a redirect.

Some folks, spammers, hackers and virus distributors seriously need to get a life in the real world.

Unfortunately this is the real world and it's on the increase.
