Well.. Here are two of the three I've been working on over the last few weeks. I'm about 2/3's of the way through the last one then I'll start looking for something else to occupy my free time...

I have to say.. I really enjoy DIY. It can be incredibly frustrating at times.. but very rewarding. Kind of like marriage.. only without the bad breath.

Anyone here (Myles?) built any good stereo EQ's?

LOL.. I s'pose... Though you'll have to ignore the kludge on the Sta output attenuator.. I'm waiting for some 604 ohm resistors to show up..

How does your Gates sound? I'd be interested to compare it with my Retro Instruments STA.

Is it rude to ask what the gates build cost all up?

I've built a stereo pultec with JLM dingo boards and using Pickstone Opamps that I like a lot. Pics when i get a chance.

Looks great! The layout on those drip boards is so spacious and neat.

The diy pultecs are great, there are a bunch of options to tailor it to your taste too. The night eq is a good stereo comp and there are som excellent eqs for the 51x format too. Have a hunt through the group-diy site and pick one that suits your situation. I know that when I return I'll be building another set of pultecs...

Nice drip builds, be good to hear them in action.

Myles.. I've had a gander over there and see where Tat offers some stereo cases.. I think he was using Igor's boards and I can't find them anywhere.. I am mighty curious about the Porter Net EQ though..

I seem to be turning into the DIY Guy.. Today is painting my kids room...

Ben.. I'm going to do a proper BOM and figure up what it cost me.. There were a few errors in their BOM and I stuffed up when I ordered the power transformers. Also, I used Sowter trannies instead of Lundahls, ALPS pot for input and a NOS Mallory 600T for out.. Mine is definitely a middle-of-the-road build.. It sounds fantastic though.. Maybe I'll up the caps at some point, though likely not. I hate messing with things when they're working.. (well, most of the time). I will probably still add the Fairchild time-constant mod as I've got the boards and populated them... Just need to sort out exactly where to stick it in.. either R36 or 37 I'm thinking.

Barney, I love Joes stuff.. I plan on more sometime this year. I've built the dual 99v rack kit and upgraded another, (series one), that I bought off of someone else.

Though I'm a rack kind of guy.. the 500 series stuff is calling again and one of these days I'll answer I'm afraid..

When I fix the kludge I might add a few more pics with a bit better detail..

pultec and sontec designs though I must say his builds whilst they sound great are annoying as the documentation is not great and the parts list does require some thinking as does the parts placement.

Thanks for that Myles.. I had seen that page once before but had forgotten how I'd gotten there.. As time gets closer I'll start digging deeper..

The Drips were great for getting me to chase through schematics and try and understand why things did what they did. Same old story though.. every time I learned something it was accompanied by a lesson that there was even more that I didn't know about.. Ah well...

OK.. Finished the second one tonight and it was as smooth as a dream.. I'm lacking one power trans mounting bolt, (off to Bunnings tomorrow), and the resistors for the output attenuator..

Oddly, I ran it anyways and there seemed to be little-to-no difference in the one that has them installed.. I may just leave them out altogether..

At any rate.. here it is:

It will be a hoot tomorrow to connect them both up at once and compare them. When I ordered the tubes I had them all matched so (hopefully) they should be very close to one another....

Now on to some EQ's I think.

Following on from the Igor post, I have the 2254C 2ch compressor if you want to try it out. I know it's not tube but it sounds fantastic!
