Just make sure your computer has the old PCI slots. It wont work in PCIe.

Rick - I've probably got the one you need, you can put up to six PCI cards in it and connect it to a PCIe computer.

I tried selling it a few months back, but to be honest if you want it I'll just drop it round. I've got a trolley of yours that I need to return anyway.

Thanks for that. Just to clarify, this version is not the Magma brand. It's currently in my office in Ingleburn and I won't be back there till Tuesday. I'll open it up and take a few phone pics.
It was purchased from Sound Devices and was running a Pro Tools rig. I had been running 4 x UAD-1 cards in it and it worked perfectly with no issues.

Ok, so I open it up and low and behold it is a Magma brand. It has no outside Logo but is most definitely Magma.

This box was used with Pro Tools HD and PCI UAD cards.

Not surprised. I had a vague memory that all the Digi chassis, with the posible exception of the earliest ones, were Magmas. So a check of the bridge chips, as per the Magma answerbase posted above, will determine whether or not this unit works with Intel Macs.

It could be used on a WIn7 machine as there are a handful of specialty Wintel (i5/i7) motherboards that include a PCI slot.

True, but one can purchase other host adaptors from Magma. When I got my S/H Magma 4-slot, it came with a PCI card, so I purchased an ExpressCard/34 adaptor separately.

Here's an excerpt from an email I got from Magma when I was looking at this stuff:

Here are the different chassis’-

P7R4 – 32-bit 7 Slot PCI expansion system (Magma only) – option for PCI or PCIe host card (x1 speed only = 32-bits)

P7R464 – 64-bit 7 Slot PCI expansion system (Magma / used to be distributed and branded by Digi about 4-5 years ago) – NO PCIe host card option when using with a MacPro (compato problems with the Intel and DEC chipset that was used in this solution).

Expansion HD – Magma was not a part of this development – short lived Digi solution – no longer available thru Digi (or anywhere to my knowledge).

PE6R4 – 6 Slot PCIe (x8 host) to PCI-X expansion system (Magma / distributed and branded by Digi until they rolled into the PCIe to PCIe 7 Slot solution by Magma = EB7) – comes with PCIe host card and has PCI(x) slots for “legacy” PCI(x) cards

EB7 – 7 Slot PCIe (x8 host) to PCIe expansion system (Magma / currently distributed and branded by Digi)

If you have a Magma chassis already, you can easily upgrade to a new solution (i.e. from P7R464 or P7R4 to PE6R4) by replacing with new board-set (keep the same enclosure and power supply)

Rick - here's the summary:

The Digidesign rack I gave you will work as is, assuming you have a working copy of Pro Tools 8. (It will NOT work with Pro Tools 9.)

Peter's rack would only work if you:
(a) used it on a machine that has a PCI slot (there are no current Macs like this, but a Windows machine could be built if you found the appropriate motherboard, of which a handful still exist)

...or ...

(b) you ordered and installed the upgrade kit from Magma, as discussed by David above.
