Just wondering if anyone has used a USB to MIDI keyboard Interface Converter like this one in Pro Tools?

I've got the Alesis one. It works.

For general stuff there's no problem.

I've had huge trouble trying to use these for SYSEX (my original Axe-FX could only be updated that way), I just couldn't get either of two to work.

Went to record my drummers new Roland TD9 and was surprised to learn that it has no usb out for midi! Didn't have a midi cable either so was just wondering if these cheap converters off ebay would do the trick. Fancy not having a usb out on a $2.5K Drum Module, why are some ppl completely stupid plus it's only analog stereo out so the midi out is essential if you want to multitrack drums seriously? X(

The TD-9 is not that upmarket - more a lower/mid model. ($2.5K should buy you the whole kit, not just the module.) If a drummer wants more analog I/O they need to go for the TD-30 model that has 8 dedicated outputs + stereo analog + S/PDIF.

Some guys I know with e-drums say the $2 cheapie MIDI-USB convertors work ok. MIDI is a serial protocol, so they should be fine. Doesn't your ADAC have a MIDI (Din) port that you could use?

<edit - sorry - just saw that you don't have a MIDI cable - it's worth having a couple of those methinks>

Yeah he bought the whole kit $2.5K, didn't bother telling anyone either, just went and bought it, typical stupid drummer!! Everything I have here has usb midi out and the dipshit drummer told me the TD9 had usb midi but it was a usb drive input only so he can play his dipshit drummer music!! If I had known I would have got a standard midi chord beforehand, but now I will get the usb midi converter cord. I phoned the drummer last night and guess what, he's actually got a usb midi converter cord for his keyboard but didn't think to bring it...bloody drummers!! :((
