studio design 101 - monitor placement and acoustic treatment

Hi Guys,

i've been designing some studio furniture for my bedroom midi studio.

my goals are:

1. get at least my main monitors and main listening position sounding as accurate as possible.

2. get the room sounding as good as a bedroom can.

3. fit all of my gear in it in an ergonomic way

the main monitors (north wall/window) are a pair of tannoy golds,
i was hoping that having them so close to the window wouldn't be too much of a problem - if so could i put some movable baffles / acoustic tiles behind them (stuck on the window) for when i'm listening through em?

the speakers on the west wall (mackie 8bus)are a pair of hifi speakers, they are really colored but i love em and i know their sound well - will the right speaker be substantially affected by the fact that it is about 450mm off the corner (bass proximity effect)? i could put a bass trap up this corner of the wall if needed.

the speakers on the south wall (dj area) are huge full range audiophile speakers. They are really flat (like 80% monitor 20% hifi) and the lows are real low. I like to have em as another refrence point. I was hpoing again that the right speaker will not be adversly affected by its proximity to the corner (330mm). I can have them 300mm away from the rear wall and have some baffles / traps put behind them in that area.

i was thinking that the wall opposite the main monitors wont need any treatment / deadening as it is pretty much full of equipment but if i had too i could put a wedge acroos the wall / roof if it helped or make a thick trap (6' by 4' and 6inches thick) that i could wheel in when mixing (room to store it in next room)


i have spent ages trying to work out how i'm gonna fit all my gear in this room and this way seems the best layout - i can change it around if it is necessary for the good of the room sound and monitoring accuracy.

it sounds crap at the moment but it is pretty much empty (stuff in storage)
hardwood floors look nice but i want my old cruddy carpet back!

im hoping that i can fix the sound somewhat by adding acoustic panels or whatever in the few remaining spaces on the walls.

any ideas will be really appreciated...... and if you see that i'm doing something totally wrong.... (like putting speakers next too close to furniture or putting them on shelves) please let me have it (i want to learn).
