DEX Audio?

Postby waitup » Sun May 06, 2012 8:05 pm

Hey T'rock,

Does anyone know anything about an audio company called DEX? I acquired a power amp called the DEX200 and I'm just curious about the company. The amp actually sounds really good and is build like a tank. Thought if anyone would know they'd hang around here. I think this is them http://www.dexaudio.com.au/ though they don't make equipment any more and do CD/tape duplication now.

I emailed them a while back but they never got back to me.

Let me know if you know anything. I'll put a photo up tomorrow if I get a chance.

Nick.

I'm pretty sure they still have a factory on Macauley rd in Flemington. There is some relationship with Newmarket studios I think- they have some of their custom gear.

Adam Dempsey who works out of Deluxe Mastering in Melbourne used to work at Dex. He might be a member here?

Daniel Desiere is one of the owners and has designed quite a bit of audio gear, Di's, speakers etc and has some interesting valve gear he has modded for their mastering studio. They have a good studio and also run the Newmarket record label that many Melbourne muso's are signed with, people like Nick Charles.
Adam used to master for them and so didJohn Ruberto from Crystal Mastering and John uses Dex speakers for his mastering rooms.

Adam did master for them and he is a member here.

I have one of the DEX audio valve preamps and it's one of my favourites. Daniel Desiere is the designer builder owner of DEX as I understand but is also a little on the unusual side but hey who isn't...

Ah Dex Audio...

I worked there as a mastering engineer for about 3 years.

Daniel and Greg were both a little on the odd side but the gear they made was pretty good.

There was a tube eq that Daniel made in the main mastering suite that was pretty gorgeous. You could boost and boost and it just would'nt sound bad.

Greg and Dainel started and owned Newmarket Studios and Newmarket Records (not sure if the label still exists)

They are still on Macaulay Road in Kensington.

Daniel still makes gear as far as i know, but he has always done it to order and never really mass produced anything.

PM if you want any more info Nick. I am pretty sure i have their numbers around here somewhere.
