Thanks to everyone at Pony for a fun day.
In contrast to the drum overhead day at Eastern Bloc, I found myself unable to remember all the mics so when the question was asked I couldn't really say which I liked the most. A more leisurely audition is definitely called for.
Thanks especially to Damien who stood in the studio for hours connecting, disconnecting and moving mics.

A big shout out to the crew at Pony a massive 2 thumbs up
It got hard for me to remain objective after a while, an I am not sure if it was because we just had a break but when we listened to the C12b on the clean stuff it it was a mind blowing moment.
It really suprised me to be honest
It also seems a c12b is few an far between.........
There is a c12a ebay in London. I wish I had the cash......

Thanks to all those who came, was a good day. Way TOO MANY Mics - I think next time we'll cut it down to a more manageable amount and move into some other areas to keep everyones interest longer. Thanks to Lee for bringing in some nice mics (we all thought the AKG C12B was one of the best on the day). Nice to see a bunch of familiar faces and some new ones too and everyone sharing info and stories.
I'll let Damien post some info on the mics and the shootout when he gets time (he was straight into another session today).
Thanks again all those who made it out to Hallam for the day.
Cheers
Geoff

Re: Guitar Mic Day @ Pony Music - Sun 29th July
ok, im finally having a day off and can now post some bits... the files are to follow (i havent even started so please be patient..)
The day was great and thank you all for coming. Thanks to Regan and Troy for being "tools" guys, simon for being the gain dude, geoff and alana for the bbq and matt and brad/shane for looking after the shop... and anyone else that i should thank or i missed as i was stuck in the studio waving mics around...
the clean tests revealed a of of the different mics character and what they actually hear.. the dirty was fun and had a few surprises...
the stand outs for me were AKG C12 B.. (i have put up a wanted post...can any one help me here..)
Neumann KM56 (one of my favorite mics), U47, U47 fet and U87.
The carillion ribbon mic.. this was seriously closer to the royer than it should have been
the coles ribbon..
all of the dynamic mics were nasty by comparison...
the stand out "LOOKS" winner goes to Lee's echolette.

Re: Guitar Mic Day @ Pony Music - Sun 29th July
The Pony Music Guitar Mic Day sound files are done..
There is 2 x lots, clean and dirty.
We did not record ALL of the mics for both sounds (some people had to leave, some came late and some the consensus was. yuk so we didnt bother...)
The method was simple. We DID NOT mic the same place, spot ant time. I moved each mic around until we found a sound everyone liked, then we hit record..
We did close, mid and far for each mic.. Not all were recorded is it was horrible...
Close was on the grille to about 300mm, mid was to about 1.2 m and far was where ever sounded interesting 9on the floor, on the glass, around the corner)
There is a also the backing track file that we used, do the files have some sort of relative sense.
Have a listen... does anyone know where i can get an AKG C12B from.... dam you lee... i mean Thank you to everyone who attended, and thank you to everyone who came with mics, and no thanks to lee i now feel i want another mic...
