Plenty of soft synths with one osc, one filter and noise.
It WONT be the same though, no.

Hey Chris, I was just yanking Mikes chain... But I have actually been getting into some soft synths lately. NI Massive is a recent fave, and I have been digging the good old Arturia cs80v but I'm sure there are better cs80 emulations out there.

As good as the old analogs sound it seems to me that software will surpass hardware for fresh new sounds (obviously) but maybe even depth of sound also eventually.

Not to derail too much, but I think it comes down to your personality.
I've bought a lot of softsynths over the last couple of years. I've tried very hard to get into them, but in the end accepted that I prefer to twiddle hardware knobs than click mice and input numeric amounts.
I have a friend who makes better music than me who is pretty much 100% software. I thought I could emulate him by copying some of his methods, but finally I've accepted I'm happier, and make better work when I'm using physical hardware.
If I didn't already have enough mono synths I would have been on this CS5 in a flash. $500 was a nice price.

Hey Nigel, now that you like massive so much, you can give me your CS80 and PPG.. They are useless for wobble bass.

For me, it's also about fun. I have fun jamming with & without friends on real gear.
No fun looking at screen while jamming.
