thats decent budget for a small console
what do you actually require? (number of sends? groups? press or just line mixer?)
are you tracking or mixing or both?
depending on your requirements you should something good for that money/ number of channels.

the midas venice consoles are nice enough.
good for the price point, but not really a studio console.

the pots are fairly cheap
i believe its all surface mount.
and the 60mm faders shit me to tears (i just find them impossible to mix on) but if you arnt mixing that doesnt matter.

another thing (again depending on your use) is that the EQ, while it sounds lovely, is very "broad" dont technically know what the Q is, but it just "sounds wide" i.e.: a little bit of a cut seems to take a whole swathe out, and vice versa with a boost. good for shaping, but not good for mixing.

my 2 cents

Thanks for the heads up Gareth.

Yeah...I knew they were a live desk...would prefer 100mm faders.

Really want just for mixing as I don't do much tracking.
Would be used with 16 track analog and PT.

You know...those half decent consoles that were around in the 80's !

Otherwise , I'll keep my Neve !

My SoundWorkshop Series 30 20 channel, may be up for sale within the next month.
Re capped 5 years ago, some mods, great sound, compact, built in patchbay. P&G faders, Alps pots, super reliable.

Pretty sure there's a Soundcraft Ghost on Gumtree in that ballpark.
