Tolex application.

Im building a 1 x 12 speaker at the moment for a guitar.
HAs anyone (preferably in Sydney) have any experience with appy=lying tolex? i've been told it's hard as f*k and not to bother....

I've recovered a few old Fender amps.
It's piss easy, until you get to the corners and then it's bloody hard!

Hint 1- get a rubber roller so you can squeeze all air bubbles out.

Hint 2- Spend a long time worrying about where the joins will be- On a Fender style amp you can hide a few of them under metal corner covers/casters, but there are usually a few at the front you cant. If you're building an angled front panel it gets much much harder.
I found it best to glue one side of the corner down, lay the other side over the top and slice through with a scalpel to make sure they were matched.

You'll need a few clamps and heavy flat things (eg big books) to keep the weight on whilst doing it.

Im building a 1 x 12, the size of a 2 x 12...its not angled. It's just got rounded/routed edges (3/8" round over) and has casters, and corner protectors.

If you've got protecters on all corners, it will be easy as they will hide the messiest bits. Just use the idea of the scalpel for all joins and it should look great.

Also worth painting just under the joins the same colour as the tolex- eg black tolex, black paint so if it's not perfect you won't notice as much.
