why does everything said/posted here end up on google?
Even when I do delete cookies.
Can someone please enlighten me as to why?

Google is a search engine...so, going by this, there are spider (bots) which crawl the forum which you can see as registered users of the forum sometimes, looking for any new information posted on the site. A presence of bots on a site, means that it is a popular place. Search engines generally rank websites which constantly changing content higher , so when you do searches for certain gear, questions, queries, whatnot....especially if they are not popular, highly ranked sites, and sometimes also, the ONLY site with references to that equipment will show up as being as relevant result.

Hope that helps?

Deleting cookies sometimes stops this as it turns off the predictive functionallity of your "browser"., however, this has nothing to do with Google itself, just chrome, firefox, IE, etc.

Thanks Jamil - that makes sense. (in a horrible way)
So there is no real use to use delete cookies?
so much for tight knit communities...
I'm leaning to dislike google more and more - its a privacy nightmare.

Privacy, haha. What's that?
This is the play book the Worldfuckers have put together, and we're in the game every day.
Ever see the nice little adds that get suggested to you in your Gmail? You ask an esteemed colleague about Mic pre's in the 500 series format in a private email and your getting adds in your email account for all and sundry 500 series modules.
You order some Glutamine online which you have to use your email for, and then you get adds for all the bodybuilding products.
This is what our man Assange is fighting for. Privacy on the internet amongst other things. Blessed be his name.

I have to track vocals for a hip hop track about this very thing.

Zuckerberg selling us out to google can get fucked too.

forums, and "general interest" articles....are 2 of the most popular ways in which a website can increase the number of hits it has. to give an example...turtlerock has HUNDREDS, if not THOUSANDS, of precisely worded questions that many thousands of people can and or may be searching for....this is why things you type also get found on google, because many people are wondering what you are wondering too.

Ever notice how you're typing questions, like "what does it mean when there are...." and before you finish typing, there are 10 options (autocomplete) which you can chose from , or have to simply finish typing it out.

IMHO, in the last 5-10 years, google has become less and less useful place to find proper information as (going back to my original post), companies hire copywriters, often with nothing more than an arts degree to write scores of articles about whatever the website's topics are, could be home improvements, natural health, organic gardening, you name it....the artlcles are general, full of BS, and most of the time, unhelpful...

The internet has become nothing more than a ginormous ad, and search engines are its Television, again IMO....there is still tonnes of info, buuuut, the good stuff is harder to find and is hidden deeper than what first might pop up on the first few pages of Yagooglebing.

Chris, google bot is just software....on googles servers which goes out to all websites online and looks for updates in information on those sites so that when people search "AWA preamp for sale"...google can actually provide that as a result for someone who's looking to buy that kinda preamp. (just to give an example)....

Search engines can be evil, but also helpful....

funnily enough, google can be creeepy, ie. one of google's tennets is "dont be evil" (hahaha)
but can also do awesome stuff like Google Earth, and also Google Automated driving...

Agree - its just like the music industry.
Shitloads of average crap, and you gotta dig deep to find a rare gem.
lots of people have given up looking (like me).
We dont even search for new music. We wait for word of mouth recommendations.
Up yr bot

Yeah it is when it comes to releasing sensitive information that is classified. Held secret from the public. But he is also fighting for an individual's right to consume porn on the interweb for example, anonymously without fear of being spied on or your details being given to intelligence agencies. Look into the privacy issue he had with Richard Lowenstein, you know the art school type who use to make the INXS film clips. People's personal information is their personal information, it's not a commodity.
The only information that should not be held private is the behind the scenes secrecy of the Worldfuckers because well, they are Worldfucking us.

I believe it is possible (and quite easy) to ask the googlebot not to index a webpage.

I think it's also easy to ask google not to cache pages.

<meta name="robots" content="noindex">

Stick this on the header of a page and all bots will not index the page.

I agree, but I'm slightly more concerned about people making money from their misuse of my personal information - like G***le and F***b**k.

Yeah Chris (linear). defo possible to slimit google bots. Popular websites have too as too many bots slows down servers. It is in the interest of the health of a website to allow indexing howveer...so, double edged sword.

This forum has won a couple of meaningless it awards
Best of type stuff .. Because I don't advertise it is scanned and scanned by bots
Which is why the Russian ladies try so hard to get in and why joining the forum
Is harder then it should be ... Security is a drag

And sorry Chris but the seemily mean less conversations
We have ... With the seemily non advertorial content IS exactly the kind of
Stuff the world wants , 20 of us typing away on any given day
And tens of thousands of hits a week

You know I don't mind the google thing it reminds us all to speak the truth
As we know it and to be kind to our brothers and sisters

Now for reference if there is something you don't want remember by
The time machines .. Let me know
If I erase it .. The link dies
And I do clean the floor from time to time

Chris, it's always a good idea to delete cookies, some of them can contain some nasty malware, adds etc. I use cookiekiller, plus a few others on firefox. There are a whole bunch of security addons for firefox, some are very good.

Or even go a step further - config your browsers not to accept cookies - make them ask you to do it - I know it's a pain, but it keeps your machine a bit cleaner. Also config your browers to clear history every time you close out, and empty the cache daily too .... then go into your temp folder (windows) and clear that out regularly - there are more but those are a good start :ympray:

I try hard not to be controversial, but <edit> anyone got a free Julian that they'd sell me?
