Re: M49u for sale??
Klaus Heyne says,
The pictures do not change my conclusion. Neither does the elaborate story of the seller.
I continue to believe that this is a home-made addition to a stock M49.
Here are additional reasons why I am suspicious about the seller's claims of rarity: the seller does not tell the truth about the age (or originality) of the rest of the mic.
This mic is not a stock 60 year-old M49, as he claims. Until the mid-1950s, M49 had a red jewel in front, not a Neumann badge. And even after introduction of the badge, for a few years the mics continued to have a nickel-plated basket retainer band, not a painted one. Besides, the whole basket looks awfully new to me, and not exactly period-correct, even for a late 1950s or early 1960s M49.
In addition, neither the capsule (from 1994) and lead out wires are period-correct, nor are the few electrical components showing under the hood and on the side.
The switch is a pretty smart idea (though esthetically questionable): a torque lever, actuated from the front of the mic, will operate a sliding switch connecting to the 1000 pf capacitor bridging beetween front and rear diaphragms.
Can you also let the readers know what your personal interest in this mic is?
Thanks,

Why does the auction say this:
Perhaps I am missing something? Wouldn't a lot be gained if someone just opened the mic and showed some gut shots?
**PLEASE DO NOT OPEN THE ITEM TO REPAIR OR EXAMINE SOMETHING INSIDE.**
YOU HAVE TO SEND THE ITEM BACK TO ME IF SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING AS EXPECTED. I WILL PAY FOR YOUR SHIPPING AND I WILL SEND THE REPAIRED ITEM BACK TO YOU.

Anyone want popcorn?
You will need more than one bag of popcorn for this one!!

This is an extraordinary coincidence as last night i was reading through my archive copy of the deleted parrody thread we had some fun with here last year. I was quite upset and angry at the reception Rick got from some in the PRW camp over this mic and that is why I started the "Stunning Realization" parody thread. In case you ever wondered Rick, It was definitely in support of your role in the PRW thread.
I have some pics of a 57 that indicate Gefel..... ( spell check help me out please please ).... was involved in the manufacturing of some parts from early examples of the sure 57 found at an op shop in Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. ( One of the few times i beat Mick Wordley to a hidded gem ). These super rare mics actually sound great as a snare mic but tragikly the normal 57 has only a slight sonic resemblance to the Gefel influenced ones. I might add that is how the modern 57 gained it's reputation as a snare mic. There is only one former Gefel employee still living with the direct knowledge of this hard to believe fact and we are attempting to contact Alzheimer-Haus, the nursing home where he now resides just a few kilometers outside the town of Gefel...............
.......yes, out of pure vanity, i kept a copy....i even thought of sending a copy to Oliver but thought better of it.

Its kinda a weird pissing contest really ..
cant figure it myself ( well because i know i am right)
but a bunch of my new posted stuff has already been immediately removed because i was being "unhelpful and defensive" which actually i probably was .. so its fine... i can wait ...
i put some stuff into one of those guys in boxes and he is usually pretty good about standing corrected
so lets wait and see what he thinks now
but really one would suspect somebody sending me a beer would be in order
i dont think i will hold my breath
it might take a while longer

........removed from PSW, not PRW?
I am really hoping PRW can be mature and not overly defensive about this new info flooding the net....... I think it's a great forum there but their credibility will take a bit of a dive if they close rank and close minds on this one, and I suspect there are quite a few who where aware of the previous thread, how it developed and how it closed who will be watching on the sidelines to see what gives.

Agree Chris - the way they shut down the conversation really disappointed me at the time - It came across to me as arrogant.

The plot thickens, new thread on the 49U with photos

It seems Rick may need an apology.
I don't understand their really aggressive stance on this???
Something's not right here.

That's great news, I really look forward to that addition to TRF.
I've always found the PRW forum a little strange to figure out its format.. is it already showing topic locked?

Are you sure, as it's not showing locked for me?
I am really hoping that there is no hostility at all in any postings on the PRW thread as I want the thread to stay open for obvious reason of exploring the very real possibility that here we have a mic manufactured by Neumann that most did not know existed. That's an exciting possibility that all should be open to explore.

but its ok its his thing , i was on the defensive..he didnt like it

Just do it Rick. If you have proof, post it. End this saga and move on. If it's unprovable, lets just shrug our shoulders, agree to disagree and move on.

Re: M49u for sale??
there is no proof for much of the stuff thrown around about old microphones
just educated speculation ..
we might post up some educated speculation though.. but frankly its a wierd situation
whats that pole poster in sydney at the moment ..?
there is a photo of jim morrison and his quote
"he who controls the media controls your mind .."
this time next year or the year after when somebody releases a dodgy clone m49 u and a bunch of secret information to go with it made up in fantasy land
they are at very least going to have to step over my muddy tracks and all we know about the mics to do it .
