fyi Swamp has some cheap XLR patch panels atm ($20) - XLR(F) one side and XLR(M) on the other.

Ian - they look good, but I really only need 4 XLRs, and having the other connections would be ideal (with USB and HDMI I can control the recording from inside the booth.)

Apparently the technical term is "Wall plate" (at least according to some). This crowd do something along the lines of what I want (although I don't really want plastic):

Another option is JANDS. They make pre-punched stageboxes in various configuations and you could just load it up with the connectors of your choice.

Swamp industries do panel mount connectors like USB and firewire etc that come in an XLR D size shell so they just fit straight into a regular xlr punched hole. They also do 1 and 2 ru panels pre-punched with 12 and 24 holes respectively.
You could just make a wooden surround and screw the panel into it.

Holy crap, where does the time go. Anyway, for the incredibly small number of people who are mildly interested, here's an update.

The booth is extremely close to finished. IT is currently being painted (hot pink), both doors are in place, it even has power.

The ventilation is as close to being finished (while still not being complete), and tomorrow a friend is coming over to put the Neutrik connectors on the cabling. Once the connectors are soldered on, the booth will be usable(!)

It will probably sound horrible, so then phase 2 begins - getting my soundproof box to sound good. Well tolerable at least. I scored some charity acoustisorb from Steve Francis (that stuff is awesome) so I'll be putting that to use.

FWIW I've just moved into a little cottage in Melbourne and setup a studio in the spare room, which is a very small fibro box. Surprisingly, the sound isn't too bad! the angled ceiling probably helps, and the amount of music gear in the room acting as "diffusors"... Yet to do any serious tracking/mixing though. Good luck champ!
