Can anyone recomend a AD/DA adat converter for my RME Fireface800 to give me extra inputs ?
I've noticed the RME ADI-8 PRO at aruund $2000. Just wondering about alternatives.

The Apogee Ensemble is supposed to be getting a software upgrade next month to allow it to run in standalone mode, more expensive though, I guess it depends on your budget and if you are a fan of the Apogee sound. It has 4 very good clean mic pre's on it also so it may be overkill for your needs.
At the bottom end (ie: very cheap) there is the be!@#$%^& ADA8000, which has Alesis converters in it, and surprisingly is not too bad....

That's too funny... automatic "modification" by the forum software of the name of a certain infamous company... Pretty appropriate though, maybe it protects the forum from bad luck, the same way as nobody mentions "Macbeth" in a theatre.

Hey, my wife's 27 Greats Uncle was Macbeth, and Shakespeare gives him a really bad rap.
Surprisingly, that bit about him being in the family tree is actually correct.
Mickey, I'm not sure if you are looking for just a converter (like the RME model) or if you want some pre-amps as well.
If its the former, maybe give Joe Malone in Brisbane a call and ask him about his transformer-based version using the SM Pro 8 channel ADAT card. About $900, I think. Alternatively, the Swissonic ADAT24 gets some good raps as hitting in a league well above its price - I got mine off ebay (they are no longer made) for about $300.

Kris there is no solid evidence that Marlowe was Shakespeare. Or that Shakespeare killed Marlowe. But I like that fact that you brought Elizabethian literature into a thread about AD/DA converters. HAHA :P

No No - I think it's good to show that audio nerds can be sophisticated and cultured :-). Maybe we should open a thread in the Inspirational Websites forum ... Okay now I'll stop hi jacking this thread too. Carry on.
