so i have a protools HD Rig accel 3 that is currently running on a G4
many months ago i went looking for an expansion chassis and manning came to the rescue
I am embarressed to say it took me this long to get the cash to get a mac pro to stick it in
So I finally go about the changeover tonight and to my horror i find two things
1.
I have misplaced the PCI host card for the chassis ( i will find it )
but more importantly the chassis I have is for Pci e cards
the HD cards I have are the large standed early PCI cards NOT Pci e
So i Need a PCI chassis and a PCI e host card
ANYBODY ...?
what have you got ?
All things being flukey i just need the chassis for the older cards and i will be able to use the host crd i have ( but have lost )

Rick - are you sure?
The chassis I gave you holds PCI/PCI-X cards, and then has a PCIe adaptor to go the host machine. I used it in exactly this way for a while.
As far as I know they never made a PCIe to PCI chassis.

Hey Rick, PCIx cards are backwards compatible with PCI.
This might be what you are witnessing. The magma chassis is probably only PCI, but your pcix hd cards will fit. By design, the "x" portion of the cards won't be used. This is how my HD cards are seated in my hackintosh. Half the card connections just float in space.

What nath said (thanks for that).
Also, as far as I know that chassis definitely won't work with PT9 or PT10.

so those extra twenty double sided pins that are now floating in the air are uneeded ..?
ok .. why not ..goodo .. thanks fellas
i will move to the next level of this game and see if it will work on mac pro .. ( using protools 7.3 ) using the host pcie card that i will have to find
thanks so much ..
always better to learn by being dumb..
then to suffer pretending your smart
the forum just paid for itself this year if this all works out

Re: WANTED PCI expansion chassis for protools HD
I've successfully used it with both PT7 and PT8.
I've read it won't work with PT9 but never tested it (although I assume it is true).
Have fun.

Yip, that looks about right to me! I actually dremelled off those left over pins on my core card because the northbridge heatsink on my PC motherboard prevents them from being seated correctly.
