I wonder, what the tape is for...? Its not a pad, the pad is a little switch down the other end.

Where the tape is, there is just, barrel. Weird... perhaps it covers a engraving of some sort.

Yeah duh I just looked at the enlarged pics and it's obviously tape and you're probably right - covering an engraving.
I'd get it but I'm temporarily broke...so good luck with it!
