Those new re-issue Neve's.....

Postby The Tasmanian » Thu Feb 28, 2013 10:51 am

I have just had the chance to do a session on them - an 8 channel rack.
Very average dodgy pots, multiple already failing on these units
Above all - they sound very average, brittle in the EQ - nothing like the real thing.
Very underwhelmed.

Now I know when they are on a gearlist for a studio not to use them for much at all.
What a bummer - I was hoping I would like them.

Hey Chris,
What model Neve are you talking about.
Is it the AMS stuff, 1073 or 84 ?

Dish of the week has been beef cheeks at Mo Vida, full and meaty like Neve used to be :)

I got the chance to play with an API 500 series 1073 and was very underwhelmed.

It didn't even come close to the Golden Age clone I had to compare it to.

I Have a pair of the Brent Averill 1073's and they sound great. Built like a proverbial S'House. I have never personally used an original but I'm very happy with these.

Must be the AMS Neve?
My Neve history stops at the V series consoles
The 8Ch Rack I just used is only a couple of years old - and switches falling apart, amazingly bad latching switch printing..

The Prisms are great - not so crazy about the pre's / compressors and gates on them though....
but the Prism EQ is gold!
