Re: Thriller outboard
There's a thread somewhere on GearSlutz which identifies every single item in that picture - Bruce was in on the discussion to clear up any confusion.
I can't access it at the moment, but I can find it when I get home (if someone else doesn't link it first)

Re: Thriller outboard
Thats great Rick -
wonder if they used the dolbys as a processor back then - rather than a decode box?
cool...now when I sell both of my (those) Urie EQ's and a innovonics 201 compressor I can get 12.5% more.

Re: Thriller outboard
I guess I am a little pleased with how much outboard
Is NOT in this photo
Take out the tape machines and the things I know
Would not be in the mix ( metronome )
So a few extra narly urie eqs and the usual amount of limiters
For the 80s
Most kids sessions come in to me with WAY
More stuff on their mixes and they see my analog stuff
And wish they had it to add to their mix as well !
That rack in photo was a very very expensive
Way to not do too much in 1982 !
Not a bad sounding track either
I bet the mix was mostly .. just that MIX
automation is the best sounding limiter or eq i have ever heard
oh and mutes .. i like mixes that contain mutes .. i think they sound nice

What's the box on the top right hand side?
Chris the doblys look like their in encode mode, it's a great sound when it works.

Here's the GS link where Bruce posted the pic:

And just for giggles, a thread where some guy innocently asks about compressors for horns, get the typical sort of response, and then Bruce Swedien rocks on in...
