Calrec make top notch stuff if the Calrec suits your needs it will sound excellent. I prefer their stuff with transformers and I don't think wades is a tx loaded board but it will still sound great and the inbuilt comps are excellent too.. Be aware that the cabling may be expensive so quote that before you leap and if possible test the functionality of the board too.

I have heard they are good solid console! It's worth every bit of the 1k it's starting at, even if it needs a bit of work!

Looks like everyone has the same thought - I logged on to recommend the Matchless.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/32-Channel-T ... 43bb5dd4cf

Sure you'll spend a littlevbit to get it singing, but you'll have change from $4K and have a way better board than the Toft.

The Matchless is a good console with cheap mic pre. If you're using external mic pre's then no problem.

Reasonably easy console to upgrade... all IC's are socketed. No direct replacement for the SM2015 mic pre chip unfortunately.

Would probably need to be recapped. I'd invest in an ESR meter and check the caps before going down that path, might save you a lot of time and money.

If possible I'd get someone to eyeball the console, preferably a tech, before buying it, or even power it up and run tone thru it. Plug a powered speaker into the output and check for scratchy pots on each channel.... that could get expensive if you need to start replacing pots.

I'd also pull out a module and check what type of faders it has... Alps or P&G.

I would recommend buying a patchbay burnishing tool to clean the jacks.

2 things I noticed from the pics....

1: Rust on the the patchbay rack screws and also on the screw holding the pcb on in the last photo. This can indicate the console has lived close to the coast or maybe it's suffered water damage.

2: A lot of wear on the Fader plate... so once again running a tone thru each channel would also give you an indication of the condition of the faders. The Alps faders can be opened up and cleaned but depending on the amount of wear they've had, results will vary.

On the plus side if it's in reasonable condition, then you're going to hard pushed to find something better for the price. There's probably a grand in multicore there.

Hope this helps

32 Channels, good board, within budget.

EDIT - I think this is the same board that Chris mentioned 2 posts back,

If I'm not mistaken, this studio has a 'palm' in the title?

Give it a few months...

We picked up the TAC Matchless yesterday (man it was big and heavy) and have an amazing tech on board to service it.
We are also going to mod the preamps from the get go. On first inspection we have been informed it looks like its in good condition but it needs to be recaped. We have been given a few boxes of looms with it and patchbays.

Does anyone here have anything they can mention about these consoles from a tech perspective or a user perspective?
