Melbourne AMPFEST 2013 - Sat 27th July

Postby OzDrum » Mon Jul 01, 2013 5:07 pm

I know this isn't strictly a Pro Audio post but it is relevant to us engineers who are always searching for that elusive guitar tone!

Pony Music has been asked to run the Melbourne AMPFEST 2013 event this year and thoroughly look forward to hosting it.

Image

It will be held in the Pony Music Recording Studio Live Room and will kick off at 1pm on Sat 27th July and it's FREE!

Bring your amps, or just turn up to check out what others have.

Looking forward to seeing some of you down here for this event.
Cheers
Geoff

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...

Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?

Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.

Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?

Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?

Marty DiBergi: I don't know.

Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?

Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.

Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.

Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?

Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

Would love to go, but up here in Sydney.

No to derail your post, but are there any people in Sydney who'd be interested in this kind of event here somewhere?

I'm currently on the edge of going the Axe-FX / FRFR route, but I'm finding it hard to give up the gear I have now, and perhaps being in a room full of various gadgets for an afternoon of tyre kicking would help me decide.

I have been to 3 or 4 sydney ampfests.

an organised 5ish Melbourne Ampfests.

Sydney ampfest wont be on this year as the person that organises it is having issues with all forms of government over plans for Windsor bridge. an Thompson Square.

If you have any questions about the sydney one I should be able to answer

Cheers simon.

yep, basically a piss up at a pub in Windsor! Not a bad day out but of course a bunch of amps in a studio with proper A/B ing would be more useful, but not complaining ;)

But if you're hearing mic placement, pre's, processing etc you're not hearing the amps as they really sound.

Only a week until this event, we are blocking out a couple of the rehearsal studios for anyone who wants to crank up any of the amps in an area that isn't impeding on people wanting to talk etc..

I'm doing a job at Burwood so will drop in on my way. Will bring my Egnater Tweaker, A little Rex Mascot and a 5 watt Goldentone to represent the low wattage brigade (%)

Hallam is on his way to Hallam, a midday beer in hand, two old amps, one new, and 2, 6GW8's to check out the state of play. Good day for it I reckon.

Thanks for these.

In that photo set, in the last photo, what's the little square metallic blue amp on the left?
