I suppose this is a moan but here goes. How can they call the section on ebay Pro audio when 99% of stuff up for auction is CRAP. Go to Ebay USA and oh boy there is some nice gear for sale. Problem, alot of the sellers won't sell out of USA.
I have found some luck If you are interested and need to get some really top end audio gear. GOTO www.gearslutz.com to the secondhand section.

Nic, I get the same feeling when I go to a GOURMET sandwich bar and find just plastic wrapped pie and chips in a warmer.

BTW I think you need a Gearslutz login to access the linked page.

Works both ways, when I was selling of my studio gear.
People in Europe and US were not interested in the gear becuase of shipping. People in Australia see the US prices and say well US$900 so AUD$1000 and haggle you. Without thinking GST, shipping etc you pay from the US.

I normally found most US ebayers were cool with Aussies, I also brought from Gearslutz before as well.

Yes, ebay Australia's pro audio section seems to be full of landfill. I bought a Trading Post yesterday in Sydney just out of curiosity, and the music section there has virtually no private sales, it is, much like Ebay Australia full of traders and store adds selling Chinese surface mount horror. I think the good stuff gets sold directly by word of mouth down here.

I have bought (and sold) a fair bit of audio gear on ebay. Never bought any audio or music gear from any aussie sellers though. Generally, most US sellers will ship to Australia if you ask them. I have had some heavy pieces of gear shipped no problems. GST and duty have only ever been charged on items over $1,000. Most of the time I have escaped it, even on more expensive items. Not sure why, it just happened that way. Seems like Fedex and USPS (not UPS... big difference) seem to get passed through customs without much fuss. Some sellers have (without me asking) also labelled the box "repair/return" and have included a lengthy and detailed report on what was "repaired". I guess they see that as helping me out... which, if I'm honest, I am quite appreciative of.

I bought a neumann TLM 170 on aussie ebay, paid $1300.

my fender twin I bought on aussie ebay, $1500, in perfect condition.. sounds amazing, it was in sydney, I rung vicfast at 3:30 in the afternoon, it was picked up 45 mins later, at my door at 10:15 the next morning $30 freight

they are the only real things from aussie ebay that I thought I really scored....

I've been silently whinging about the crap offered in the Pro Audio Section of ebay too - and wondered about what can be done about it and if its worth it. Seeing a $19 karaoke mic in pro audio just pi$$es me off and I've been trolling through ebay less and less as a result.

i will admit that I have purchased some good stuff in the early days (eg MD441U etc) - but nothing of value lately.

It didn't seem to be nearly this bad a couple of years ago.. i picked up a 4-channel sebatron pre for $1200 on aussie ebay almost two years back, and there seemed to be a decent amount of nice stuff on there then. these days there really is very little of interest.

I've found a few great bargains on ebay all from the USA especially mics, they are more than happy to send here, just find sellers with good feedback.
Last item I bought was here in 4 days from Arizona.

Very fast most sellers.

Hey Nick, good to hear from you.

I found a c414 BXL II in the box brand new un-opened with pop filter and shock mount for $900 bucks to my door. Was a happy customer. Stuff I was outbid on (been a little broke, fixing up the house a bit) was Blue dragonfly went for about $700 (actually several have come up recently). AT 4060's come up often for about $800, will get one of these soon. Also Blue Kiwi mics have been on there a bit, I'm pretty interested in 1 of those, they are a bit over a grand though. Never seem to see many 500 series modules though.

There are a few extremely good traders on there, extremely fast delivery times and great communication.

Since the fta American made stuff attracts about 2% duty, anything under a grand has no gst, so mics can be found for a bargain.

I'm even more broke now as I just got a second Buzz Essence comp this week. I'm definately liking them, though I think I'm going to need another lunchbox soon.

How are you liking the Daking Pre/EQ's?

Cheers
Heath

Hey Heath
Glad to see you going great....know how you feel about broke, over did it myself. If you need a 500 series pre get the Biz, got one need another, really cool, cleaner than what I expected. As for the Daking nice so far, sounds just like when we played around with then last year. Just got them today from the USA, they are the older model with the big mother dual knobs. Knobs must have been the thing in the early days of Daking, you can use them on your doors. Cost me about AU$2,800 for the pair landed with power supply.

Yeah the EQ in those Dakings are really sweet, big knobs would look cool. How would you describe the Biz compared to the P1? I thought the P1's were pretty clean, still hav'nt got 1 though. The Buzz Elixir pre I've got I'm liking, quite clean at a conservative level then nice and thick and coloured at a higher input level. Still need a biz or p1 too.

There's a new Buzz comp coming out too for 500 series "Potion", which is a fet comp, Tim posted a sample of smashed snare on his website and it sounded pretty damn big, I'd get one just for snares probably. So yeah I think I'm gonna need another lunchbox when I have some spare cash.

Hey Heath
Biz is similar to P-1, maybe a bit more option with the two gain controls.
I'm thinking going for the SSL XLogic comps and EQ next.

like any "marketplace" you have to look for the good stuff and buyer beware, same goes for car yards, fruit markets, real estate, whatever.

last week I scored a Nuemann KM84 for $830 Melbourne local, which is reasonable considering they can go for up to $1200US sometimes.

A few years ago I got a Pair of Neumann KM85's for $1100 from Sydney. pretty happy with that too.

not to mention the AKG "the tube" mic I scored from the gold coast, $800.

how about 4 421"s from Canberra, I think it was about $600 for all 4. and yes they all worked.

remember if you want to filter out the crap, learn how to use the advanced search! set it up once and save it.
