Let the buyer beware...

Hey Guys,

Just a quick reminder to check all purchases as soon as you open the packaging.

Picked up a new set of monitors for my edit suite yesterday, brand doesn't matter, but let's just say they were between $2k and $3k in price, from a well known manufacturer.

Was extremely careful taking them out of their boxes, and noticed that the tweeters on both units had been pushed in / crushed.

Immediately rang the retailer, then called the distributor, dropped them off yesterday, and they are fitting new tweeters for me.

The moral of the story is always check everything throughly as soon as you open a new product, if I hadn't checked, I might not have noticed for a few days, then i could have had big issues getting a switch.

Mate of mine was on a cruise ship. They stopped in a port somewhere and he ended up buying a portable stereo.
Got home, opened it up and there was only 2 bricks in the box. Nice bricks all the same, I think they were vintage, but yeah, check the contents when ya buy...

slightly off topic.... what is the deal with soft dome tweeters being "crushed"
im super careful with mine
but ive seen it often.. usually they just pop back out iwth some use.

does it matter at all?

is the actual operating part behind the dome and its just a cover?

Ideally, yes, but if it's easier and faster just to get the tweeters swapped, (it was done by 5pm today) I can live with it.

One of the guys at work, who used to work in the engineering department of a different very well known speaker manufacturer, swears that once a tweeter has been dented, they are never right again. He said there are always creases that remain, and cause extra distortion and even weird dispersion characteristics in the HF.
