ex ABC Truck?

Postby Lee » Sat Aug 31, 2013 11:19 pm

Hey guys this is not my sale or gear but I found this add on gumtree while I was looking for stuff.
It's an ex ABC Truck with a 40 channel harrison desk. Thought I'd share as this is not an everyday occurrence. Sorry for breaking the rules but that truck looks cool.

That truck has been on the market for a while now (a year...maybe more). Last time I saw it advertised the guy was looking for $250,000 (from memory).

This doesn't inspire a lot of confidence with the "repairs" that they've done...

from the article: "When I got the truck the sounding board didn't work and it needed a microphone," he says.
What? just one, for the 'sounding board'?

"current hiring charge $2500.00 p/day plus travel base to base"

If he's getting $2500 p/day with that thing I will eat my own recording truck.. one piece at a time... :)

That looks like a nightmare. I'd question taking it even if it was offered for free.

I'm hard pressed to see how the gear (assuming good condition) would be worth more than $15K - and that's assuming a generous value for the desk

It would be worth more if he took this to the tip first and saved you the trip.

very 90s... and I agree refurbishing the "sounding board" does not fill a person with confidence but maybe that's just bad reporting? Surely someone here knows the seller?

I actually feel sorry for the guy, he was probably thinking this was his retirement package, he will only be able to survive for a few months on what he is likely to get for it. Wonder if that sounding board is still in tune?

I was mostly curious of the $2.5 million cost of this back in 1985. that seems a little.. high :-\

Yes well I was at the auction when he bought it
There seems to be a zero too many on all his numbers
If he was to make a tidy profit and retire well.

But it does cost a lot to spec out a mobile truck
At any level
And twice as much
To the level the abc did .

Rumour on all the new abc trucks is they are well into
The millions for each one .

If you were in the market for a mobile truck
Your couldn't find one or build one under $80,000
And you could easily spend $250,000 getting
It all together to that level

And then it could sit around unused in your carpark
320 days a year ..

Still ..

Everybody has different expectations in life .

One of the coolest recording trucks I've seen (minus the colour). Imagine if it was stainless steel like an Airstream...

A Harrison that has been bounced around in a truck all its life and then had been unpowered for lengthy periods of time? A very hard sell right there.
