002 or console monitoring?

Postby BCains » Wed May 16, 2007 10:27 pm

Hi All,

Some of you may know i picked up a Ta@#$% m520, now i'm looking to integrate it with my digi 002.

I am not sure which is the better way to monitor protools;
A) leave my monitors hooked up to the MON OUTS
B) monitor from the console? If so how do i go about hooking it up?

EDIT:
We'll i have a thread going i might aswell ask this too.
Construction is finally taking place, as it will be a control/live room combo i'm looking at getting a headphone amp.
To set that up with my 002, do i simply plug it into outputs 7&8, if not what?

Thanks guys! :D

Hey there BC

First a caution - I'm not a 002 user. Take what I say with a grain or two of salt.

The way I would go depends on whether I wanted to use the monitor out as an extra pair of inputs to the desk. That's then a no brainer - monitor from the desk.

If not, well I'm currently doing a greatly cut down DIY version of the Big Knob for my own monitoring, which I'll call the Small Dial. Its a relay operated control box with 2 pairs of ins (main and alt) and 2 outs (main and alt). You can select either input pair, mute, dim (-20db) and mono the selected input as well as attenuate using the titled small dial, and then send it to either output. With this sort of thing, you could monitor either the desk or the 002 with the press of a button (and send it either to the headphone amp or to the in-room monitors with another flick of a button). If you're interested, let me know and I'll start a DIY thread.

Or you could just buy a Big Knob instead.
