mac help

ok i have gone over to a mac for my laptop.. a dual 2 gig macbook, 2 gig ram etc.

i want some software to record desk tapes (i dont know why i still call it a desk tape, no tape anywhere, except on the console)

i want quick EASY software to record the whole show in one take, put in track markers, boost the level, basic eq (reverse phase when needed) and burn cd's.

i have an mbox as the interface.

on the pc i have used cd archirect or wavelab. is there a mac equivalent?

waveburner, but i dont want to buy logic pro for just this function (and have another dam dongle).

help please.

nup tried this one. you cant brun from there...
i dont want to have to cut into songs, export/bounce the burn. it takes to long if its a 2 hour show every night and the artist wants to hear it before he goes to bed..........i wish is said i couldnt record shows.

this is why i - a dedicated long term mac user - bought a PC. so i could do all these things and more (in a nifty little thing called sequoia).

surely there must be a free/shareware app that does this by now. 3 years ago there was pretty much none. burn a CD from the EDL on a mac? sorry, too hard.

waveburner was ok but went out with OS9. you could try Soundblade (Sonic Studio), but probably overkill for your purposes.

there's got to be something out there by now....



edit.... actually i just remembered a thing called Amadeus Pro, i'm pretty sure you can burn from the EDL which means you must be able to drop track markers freely. try it and let us know how you go.

Peak can do this. It's the one app that I've never found an equivilent to. I always did it in an odd way using in/out markers and the sample splitting support, but there is an official way to do it.

When I record concerts I do it in one long shot (or two if there's an interval), mix it as one long track with *very* limited automation and then just bounce it down to a stereo file and use peak (ancient v2.mumble) to do my track splitting.

Peak is one of those apps that you need to see a "power user" in action to appreciate, audacity can do a fair bit, but I always find it far too cumbersome to deal with often.

I havent used it, but it seems well featured, and wont break the bank. I normally use TC Works Spark XL (on PPC G5) but this is now discontinued, and I dont think it will work in newer Intel macs

DSP quattro is great, i've tried it as an alternative to PT for playback sometimes. it's made by the same team that built spark for TC, so there are some similarities (but much simpler, always found spark needlessly complicated). but no burning from EDL as far as i recall...

just downloaded Wave Editor to play with... now that looks pretty cool, very similar to DSP quattro... but no PQ encoding/burning from EDL (or did i miss something?)

Peak looks like the answer. Not dirt cheap but not expensive either. i remember using, i don't know, version 0 or 1.0 so it's obviously picked up a few features since then! (OK i just saw the LE version, now that is cheap might as well be free, looks like it will do what you need?)

the day digidesign add PQ/burn to PT there will be dancing in the streets. but i doubt it will happen, surely they are going to release a new Masterlist-type product one day soon (or more likely, acquire a small company that has already built it ;-)

If you have someone in education, eg a kid at school etc you can get Logic pro for about $500 and you get Waveburner thrown in with the package and it will do all that Peak does....but i find Peak is great for what you want and you can record through plugins eg a peak limiter to avoid overs....( pun unintended )

yes PEAK is the one.. I was able to record a stereo mix from last nights gig (Live @ Crown) straight from the Digico D1 into the house iMac and place track markers, normalise and burn within a couple of minutes at the end of the night. end result sounded pretty damn good in the car today!
