FS/FT/To a good home - ATC Drivers needing reconing

Postby psycho_monkey » Mon Feb 10, 2014 1:15 pm

Hi all,

We recently replaced the drivers in our ATC SCM300A mains, and I now have 4 repairable drivers sitting around wondering what to do with them.

They're model SB75 275, approx 40cm across (pre Super-linear). We had them replaced by the slightly superior current model (SB75-375 SL8W according to the packaging) - the other option was to recone them. According to CDA Audio the ATC distributors, that's a cost of about $650 + labour for all 4.

As for price I'm really open to a) offers, b) interesting trades or c) sob stories I'd really just like to keep them out of landfill....the main issue is the rubber surround that's completely perished, everything else about them is in good order!

adrian at adrianbreakspear dot com or message me here. Collection from East Sydney or delivery at your expense.

Thanks!

Hi Adrian,

if there's nothing wrong with the cones or voice coils you should be able to have the surrounds replaced at a lot less than $650 + labour.

I've had this done with Tannoys, can't see any reason why they couldn't replace the surrounds on the ATC's.

Then you could keep them as spares in case you blow a driver in the future.

Hope this helps.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for that advice - good to know, I do appreciate the input. I'm just going on the assessment from ATC + CDA audio.

Our new drivers are the upgraded model, so whilst I suppose something might be better than nothing when it comes to a replacement, I'd need to purchase a new SL version anyway ASAP. At the moment these things are taking up space - I just need rid!
