PC Build
I had a power failure and my motherboard is fried on my PC. It was time for a whole new system anyway.
Still considering going Mac, but in the meantime researching a silent PC build.
Trouble is, everything changes so fast in computerland, that any info 6 months old is obsolete.
I've looked at the Music Computers forum on Gearslutz and it's helpful, but a lot of the PC build info is out of date.
I've got to get a new audio interface as well, so also researching that.
Does anyone have any suggestions or resources they could point me to?
Guide me through the maze.
I'd love it if someone would just say "get these components".

Re: PC Build
Vin Curigliano from AAVIM Technology built my last PC. I cant recommend anyone higher. The quality of the build is fantastic and as a specialist DAW builder thoroughly test all current components for compatibilty.

I'm sure Vin knows the answer. Call him. He loves a chat.

Re: PC Build
Vin sounds like a good option, as I might be having to get a new system as well. I have visited his site lately, but hearing 1st hand experiences always helps.

I've just ordered a system from Vin.
It was great to talk with someone who is not only knowledgeable about computers for audio, but interfaces and software as well.
Thanks Peter for the suggestion.

Re: PC Build
If you mention my name to Vin, he will curl up in the foetal position whilst muttering, no no no no!
I got a system from Vin, and had huge headaches.
He handled it brilliantly, it went on for months, he handled it brilliantly.
It was expensive, unbelievably well built and spec'd, expensive, and had an ongoing issue, which....
although we could never fix, he handled brilliantly.
I ultimately made the switch to Mac.
If you can afford Vin, and want PC, he is a great guy, can talk the leg off a coffee table (a good thing) and is
really committed.
He really does spec and build those things like a tank
cheers

Re: PC Build
That's a shame about the headaches. The system I bought is a beast and had zero issues with. Running ProTools 11 and Nuendo 6, 2 x UAD Quads, 2 x RME Raydats. Purring like a kitten & quiet as a mouse. A similarly speced Mac Pro would be 4 times the price.
At least he handled it brilliantly.

I think in Pro Tools land (certainly at the time) he was unbeatable (2007ish)
For me, around 2009, i jumped ship to Mac, and bought a off the shelf iMac which was about 1/3 of the price of the system I got off Vin before it, and it did all I wanted and more. BUT!! I only do about 6-8 tracks at once, ever, and didn't run pro tools (logic) and don't have very demanding requirements.
He is great. And his gear it tops.

Well not quite Peter...lol
That was a very rare and unfortunately set of variables at the time, multiple UAD's and some issue with the RME HDSP 9632 under Sonar from memory. The system board with the PCI-X/PCI combination was also an odd bird , which worked perfectly for PTHD systems of the day, but was a little less friendly with UAD's.
Anyhow, good to hear you are still kicking along..

Thanks to all for the heads up and kind words , I do appreciate it , I am not here to pimp my wares, but I will do my best for anyone who needs help with a solution.
Cheers

Re: PC Build
Indeed, welcome aboard Vin
I still intend to order a new machine from you - unfortunately I have been sidetracked by puppet related costs for the time being.
(That is certainly one of the weirdest sentences I have ever typed.)

You definitely don't hear that everyday... you know... unless you work in a puppet or puppet related
industry
