Sennheiser MKH 416 repair?

Hi y'all.

I have an original (silver) 416 P48 mic which I seem to have done some damage to.
I think the cable I used with it had an intermittent fault where the shield wire (pin 1) may have contacted pin 2 whilst phantom power was switched on, in which case I suspect I may have fried a component in the amp section.
I got clicks and pops and now just very low level (distorted) signal (with plenty of background noise) from the mic.

Can anyone recommend the best and most cost effective repair route?

To repair it properly i'd suggest sending it to Sennheiser Australia or one of their agents. The early 416 have an extended bottom end which was rolled off in the later revision and as such are desirable. If one of the transistors is fried,it is best to get them to do the work as these were often select on test parts and then the whole mic has to have an RF drive alignment which must be done in a shielded jig,only Sennheiser or their Authorized agents would have.
Technical workshops in South Yarra ,109 Commercial Rd, are probably still an authorized repairer.Geoff Knight is the boss there and will know what to do.It's worth repairing though,these mics still command top dollar.
