Call out for Hi8 video player or camera

Hi All,
I have a friend that needs to transfer a film sound track from old Hi 8 Video tapes to WAV files.
Tapes come from the National film and sound archive so their probably in good condition.
I'm looking to borrow or hire the Hi 8 player and doing the transfers myself.
Anyone have or know of a player or camera that's not going to chew the tapes?
